Meet Callie Saeher

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Callie Saeher a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Callie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

My journey began with addressing our pup’s sensitivity issues. I was determined to find treats that would alleviate his stomach and skin sensitivities. After extensive research, I discovered that many commercial treats contain preservatives and additives. As a scientist, I explored the benefits of antioxidants in purple sweet potatoes and believed they could be highly beneficial for my dog. I experimented with various recipes and tested the treats he liked best. It’s rewarding to know that our initial goal of solving a problem has led to creating healthy treats for all pups. To date, we always keep this goal in mind when we develop new products and new recipes.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Callie, and I’m a research scientist. My doctoral research focused on antibiotic resistance, and my postdoctoral work has centered on studying proteins involved in cancer activation pathways. It was during this time that I became fascinated with antioxidants and their potential to combat cancer. I discovered that purple sweet potatoes contain anthocyanins, natural antioxidants responsible for their vibrant color, and these compounds have cancer-fighting properties.

The more I delved into the benefits of purple sweet potatoes, the more intrigued I became. What sets Ubae apart from other companies is the rigorous research that goes into selecting every ingredient to ensure it has proven health benefits for our pets. This is where I’ve been able to blend my passion for science with my love for pets. I am extremely happy and proud of what ubae has been able to do in the pet industry.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The quality I value most is seeking help when needed. As a founder, I often try to handle everything on my own and don’t ask for help as much as I should. Being an introvert also means I usually stay behind the scenes, but as the brand grows, I recognize the importance of connecting with pet parents. My heart is full with joy whenever I see positive reviews or hear how Ubae treats are benefiting pets with sensitivities. As a scientist, I’m accustomed to focusing on research and valuing feedback, so I’m always striving to improve Ubae. One of the things I appreciate most is the continual learning process—there’s always something new to discover both as a business owner and a pet parent.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, we are always looking for people to connect and collaborate with. We love talking to pet brands and we have done a few collaborations. I love seeing how we can all get exposure and grow together. Any brands that would like to connect, please reach out to info@ubae.co.
