Meet Danney Paul

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Danney Paul. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Danney below.

Danney , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Putting aside the reality of having any inborn characteristics, I believe that one becomes resilient by experience and overcoming. Constant conditioning and overcoming the hard parts. Understanding that the way forward will be an obstacle and pushing forward anyway. Overtime you become resilient and hard skined so to speak. It’s like playing the guitar for many years and developing hard tipped fingers.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

In Hollywood you have to be ready to do a little bit of everything. That is precisely what I do. Being a jack of all trades and master of none is indispensable in any artistic business. What I’m mostly known for is music and photography in various fields. For me, the most exciting thing I do is work in independent film. Acting, filmmaking and indeed all aspects of that world.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

It’s hard to say what specific things were most impactful in one’s journey. I suppose now looking back, communication and personal relationships were indispensable. Half of the battle in any creative field or business like this is who you know. People say it all the time because it’s really the truth. Hopefully you have your individual talents and little/big things that you can offer to any project or person. However, none of that will be utilized unless someone can recognize it and use it. You have to put yourself out there in more ways than you know. Be honest with people and honest with yourself and try to place yourself in the right crowd and a big pond so the right people and opportunities can be available. For them and for you. Then all you have to do is show up, work hard and do your best and everything else should naturally follow through.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

There’s really not enough I could say about my parents. It might be a cliché thing to say but I truly believe that my parents are the greatest parents on earth. The greatest gift they probably gave me was my entire childhood and upbringing. I could not have asked for a better one. We aren’t wealthy people, we don’t come from money, but I always felt like the richest person in the world when it came to them. A true jackpot! They never really specifically did any one thing that was the most impactful, it was just consistency and follow through and that was the best thing they did. They taught me how to be my own person, build my own life, have total independence and freedom. And when it came to what I wanted to do with my life, they were always supportive and never stood in the way.
