Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zhengyu Zhang. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Zhengyu, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I believe it’s all about focusing on the things I’m truly passionate about and genuinely care for. By immersing myself in what excites and motivates me, I’ve been able to find direction and purpose over time.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Recently, I’ve been exploring different forms of media to express myself. Alongside my studies, I’ve self-learned traditional Chinese woodcut printing, which has deepened my connection to cultural artistry. I’m also eager to showcase and sell my oil paintings and prints, as it allows me to sustain myself financially while pursuing my passion for art.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

For me, the most impactful qualities have been observation, experience, and consistency. I’ve always tried to build meaningful connections with my surroundings, paying close attention to the details around me. Experiencing the world firsthand is crucial, as it shapes perspective and fuels creativity. Lastly, being consistent—whether in learning or creating—has allowed me to grow steadily over time.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I’m currently facing the challenge of how to build a sustainable career as an artist while gaining visibility. Balancing the creative process with the need to market my work and reach a wider audience is something I’m continually working on. It’s about finding the right opportunities to showcase my art while also ensuring that my passion can support me financially in the long term.
