Meet Krystal Gillis

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krystal Gillis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krystal below.

Krystal, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

For me, I think confidence comes from being prepared and comfortable with not always knowing the answer, paired with a strong support team. The more I educate myself on topics, whether related to my industry or our company, the more confidently I can speak about them. There are often questions or scenarios that I haven’t considered or spent time on, and I’m always happy to say, ‘Let me find out’ or ‘I need to learn more about that.’ Throughout it all, I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by family and friends who help build me up when I need it and support me in incredible ways!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the CEO and founder of Tighties, a brand revolutionizing the functional activewear market by integrating technology into compression clothing. Our products are engineered to enhance strength, agility and proper body performance, making Tighties the ultimate choice for those who demand activewear. We take immense pride in our roots—our products are locally designed and manufactured, reflecting our commitment to supporting the local economy while ensuring the highest quality. Created by clinical experts and backed by science, Tighties delivers thoughtfully designed, easy-to-use, and, most importantly, incredibly comfortable activewear.
As a newly launched brand, I’m incredibly proud of the team for overcoming challenges and approaching every task with determination. Our mission has always been to improve people’s lives, and the journey to launch day has only strengthened our products. Every fitting and adjustment was worth it, and I’m thrilled with what we’ve created!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I’ve learned so much, and continue to learn every day, so picking three is difficult. Narrowing it down, I’d have to say:

1. Grit – Truly digging into the ups and downs of the journey has made a huge impact not only on my personal growth but also on our company and products. By embracing the challenges and taking the time to learn and recover, we have engaged better team members, pushed the current definitions of ‘activewear,’ and created premier products.

2. Persistency – While there is a lot of joy, every day is hard and an individual choice to proceed. When doors close, it is imperative to find a window or sometimes even a crack in the wall to break through and keep going. This comes with development, finding funding, managing and ultimately, finding customers who will benefit from Tighties.

3. Purpose – While the first two are more intense, Purpose is what brings it all together. Tighties truly builds products that help people stay active. We are pioneering a path that has a genuine impact on people’s daily lives, and that is the fuel that feeds us every day. Every message I get or person I meet who has experienced the effects we set out to create brings our purpose to life and is by far the best part of the journey!

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

This is a controversial topic! I think you must continuously have a growth mindset. Having this mindset helps you advance your company, purpose and evolve as a human. To grow, you have to understand your limits and work to understand them. Reflecting on what type of limit or weakness you have helps you solve it. Is it a bandwidth limit, a learning limit, a societal limit? No one can be great at everything, so once you know your limitations, it is crucial to find people who fill those gaps and help level up your game. The team you built around you, whether as friends, networks or employees, is what truly leads to strength.
