Meet Jorge Estrano

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jorge Estrano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jorge, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

One of my mottos is: Openness to experience, this means that before adversities I have overcome and continue standing. My family is my greatest support and thanks to the tools they share with me I can face new challenges.
Life is there, to live it, to enjoy it and I am a person who confirms it daily.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am Jorge, Psychologist and Sexologist, I am also a photographer from Venezuela. A wonderful country with extraordinary nature, warm and supportive people, but it has had a Narco-government for more than 25 years that has destroyed everything in its path. One day we literally had to flee in order to survive a persecution. This led me to move to the United States a few years ago. This country gave me a new opportunity to be free and feel safe. Here, I continue exploring and learning to grow more.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I have many qualities and abilities, I cannot deny it. But I can say that one of them is tolerance, this has taught me that in this diverse world we all have space. Patience, because I have understood that everything has its time and space. Perseverance, insisting until everything is possible.
Among my skills I can mention my critical thinking that I have developed over the years to be able to discern my reality and how I can take advantage of the opportunities that are presented to me. This brings me to the ability I have to solve problems, learning to survive in the face of adversity. And definitely my leadership ability to make the right decisions.
My recommendation for people who want to change their reality a little is, be open to experience, do not let adversities keep you stagnant and do everything necessary to grow and create.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel like I don’t have a clear path or that I can’t find an immediate way out, the first thing I do is get away from that thought for a moment. Have some free time for myself and then look for a realistic solution, and when I say realistic I mean not creating or inventing solutions that are just a fantasy. My greatest achievement is understanding who I am, where I come from and knowing what I am capable of.
It is a long, slow path and a process that you have to dedicate a lot of quality time to, but it is not impossible. It can be achieved and I am an example of it.
