Meet Jennifer Quirk

We recently connected with Jennifer Quirk and have shared our conversation below.

Jennifer , sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

Depression and anxiety has plagued me for as long as I can remember. To this day sometimes it still creeps up on me and wants me to question myself, my abilities, my self worth and my value to myself and others. Of course therapy helps but I think what helps the most is staying in the company of people who encourage me, support and remind me of the work and the contributions I’ve made to our community, how valuable and important they are. Also, looking back at how far I’ve come combats those feelings of failure and feeling worthless.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

What do I tell you about myself? Well first and foremost I’m a mom to two beautiful children and grandmother to three. I’m a survivor of abuse. Physical, mental, emotional and sexual. I’m spiritual and my spiritual beliefs are very important to me.
Professionally I’m still dreaming of the next step, the next big move, the next accomplishment. I have high hopes and intend on seeing them through. I created Mayhem Music Promotions 2 years ago with my best friend. We work with bars and venues in our area booking and promoting local original bands. We have accomplished so much in that short time. We have planned, coordinated and promoted over 100 shows and events. We have opened doors to new venues and we’ve grown from 2 of us to a team of 6. Five of the most amazing people and talented musicians. We now have our own sound technician and have several great ideas in the works.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think the 3 most important things are to be supportive and encouraging to the bands. Having great communication skills and being an equal. I’ve never seen myself as the boss or the leader rather just a fellow music lover who wants our bands to succeed and our music scene to thrive and grow. The amount of talent we have here is ridiculous!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

We are always looking for new venues, especially out of town ones so we can expose our local talent to more people. We hope to collaborate with some bigger promoters in the business and more national bands. Like I said, I have big dreams and we’re not done yet!
