Meet Billy Pinckney

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Billy Pinckney. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Billy below.

Hi Billy , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

My parents did an exceptional job instilling in me a strong sense of self-esteem and confidence. Growing up, school can be challenging, especially when others try to bring you down because of their own insecurities. However, when you understand your true worth and value, those attempts to undermine you become irrelevant.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I started my career as a batboy for a minor league baseball team in New Jersey, where I quickly became fascinated with the world of sports. With unique access to professional players, I took the opportunity to learn more about pursuing a career in the game. I began conducting interviews with these athletes, which led me to create content aimed at helping young players navigate their careers and overcome adversity. This work culminated in my book, Passion Prevails, available on Amazon. The book compiles insights from these interviews, offering guidance to young athletes facing challenges and high-pressure situations.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Curiosity is the key to growth and excitement. When you’re genuinely curious about something, you’re naturally motivated to learn more and ask questions. Without that interest, it’s hard to develop a desire to acquire knowledge or improve. Alongside curiosity, a strong drive is essential. What motivates you? Everyone needs a compelling reason to pursue their goals and fulfill their purpose. Passion often aligns with curiosity and drive; you’re more likely to be passionate about things you’re eager to explore and committed to. Discover your passion by experimenting with different interests and seek ways to turn that passion into a fulfilling career.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The Bible has profoundly influenced my personal and professional development. Its lessons offer invaluable guidance for both life and business. For example, Colossians 3:23 advises, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” This verse emphasizes the importance of aligning your work with your higher purpose rather than merely seeking to please others, encouraging you to approach your tasks as a meaningful offering to God. Similarly, 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God,” underscoring the value of dedicating every action to a higher purpose. This perspective helps me stay motivated during the difficult moments.
