Jackie, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Being the only one in the room that does what I do is both a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing because there is no competition. Sure, there are others whose work impacts the work I do, but no one can compete with me. On the other hand, no one really knows what I do.

For example, if you meet an insurance agent, you know what they do. They provide protection for you or your family in specific areas. Now you need to know what sets them apart. Why would I want to buy from them instead of another insurance agent.

On the other hand, when you say you are a developmental disability center, no one knows what that is. They understand the words, but when you put them together, it just doesn’t make sense … because no one has ever heard of a developmental disability center. So now you need to switch hats and start educating people about it.

In case you’re curious, a Development Disability Center works with people who have developmental neurological issues like Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and the like. In our case, we focus on kids from 18 months to 18 years of age.

Now you might be thinking, “Oh, like an ABA” (that’s Applied Behavioral Analysis). And the answer is no. According to the DoD (and our own experience), ABA’s don’t work. Most kids don’t see improvement … or at least any that can be attributed to the ABA.

We actually correct the root cause of the disorders we treat, and get our patients caught up to their neurotypical peers.

Research has shown that the developmental issues we work with (ASD, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, etc.) are all the result of an imbalance in the brain where one hemisphere is overactive and the other is underactive resulting in the brain being out of sync. Using a method called the Melillo Method® developed by Dr. Robert Melillo, one of the world’s foremost neuroscientists in brain science as it relates to developmental disabilities, we sync up the two hemispheres of the brain. The net result is that our kids are very close to being neurotypical.

The key to being the only one in the room who does what you do is to be able to solve a problem that needs solving and to be able to explain it to the rest of the room in a way that makes sense, in a way that gives them hope.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a neurotherapist and I correct the root cause of developmental disorders like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Learning Disabilities. I work with kids from 18 months to 18 years old who have mild to severe issues.

Because I don’t manage their issues and instead correct them, I get the pleasure of helping kids to read, or regulate their emotions, or develop focus and concentration, and so much more. I love working with the kids and love watching then grow into their full potential.

But it wasn’t always this way. In my twenties, I didn’t want kids. I wanted to work in corporate America, travel and stay single. But life had other plans.

First, I got pregnant and had a beautiful baby girl. That changed my whole world. That led me to a number of jobs working with kids, one of which was working for a company that does what I do now, and I fell in love … with the work, with the kids, with the methods we were using to correct the issues they faced.

Then COVID hit, and I started working virtually with kids all over the world. It was fun and rewarding work that led me to open NeuroFiT Connections and to continue my education with the top neuroscientists in the world where I learned more effective ways to treat the kids we work with and the more severe cases.

I would love to be able to work myself out of a job, to treat all of the neurodiverse population and get them all caught up, but there are just too many. According to the CDC, almost half of the children born in 2025 will be autistic. That’s an outrageous statistic!

To combat that outcome in our little corner of the world, we will very soon be offering free baby clinic’s where we will test baby’s milestones and correct any issues we see. If we can make sure the baby’s meet their milestones, there is a good chance they will avoid the developmental disorders that plague our society today.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think the most helpful skill that I have is the ability to relate to kids, to reach them where they are and bring them up to where they need to be. My husband calls me a “kid whisperer” and I suppose I am. I’m not sure where I picked that skill up, but I’m glad I did.

I also took leadership training with Mary Morrisey many years ago. Those leadership and coaching skills became the foundation for the next chapters in my life.

Fast forward a few years and I became interested in holistic medicine to promote health and healing. My certifications in some of those healing arts led to my creation of Healing Combinations, a company dedicated to providing natural remedies to those in need.

While building Healing Combinations, I took a greater interest in my own health. In addition to regular running schedule, I started attending CrossFit, which later led to adult and kids coaching certifications.

While at a CrossFit competition, I was asked to create a healthy protein bar. With that success Tribal Treats was founded to provide healthy protein-based treats to athletes and others with a desire to live their best lives.

More than seven years ago, I started another chapter and began working with kids with developmental delays such as ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, etc. It wasn’t long before I began following and learning from experts in the field such as Dr. Robert Melillo, Gary Leisman, Dr. Peter Scire and others.

It was through my work with these experts that I decided to create NeuroFiT Connections, combining Neurology and Fitness, and developed the program we use today based primarily on the work of Dr. Robert Melillo. It combines the best holistic tools in the world backed by science and research with the latest fitness techniques to solve the root cause of developmental delays.

Now NeuroFiT Connections combines all of my knowledge and skill to create a program that solves today’s most challenging health issues such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and more. To date, we have 100% success in meeting the reasonable goals set forth for our patients.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The book that played the most significant role in my is “Disconnected Kids” by Dr. Robert Melillo. It was that book that started me on my journey and drove me to go to New York where I learned at the feet of the masters.

It was that book that taught me that issues like Autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia can be corrected. And, by applying the techniques in the book, I discovered it was all true.

I learned the signs and symptoms of developmental issues and I saw those issues go away as the child was treated.

And I learned the importance of the three pillars to correct the major neurological issues that children face today: integrating primitive reflexes, stabilizing the core, and stimulating the weaker hemisphere of the brain.

Primitive reflexes are reflexes that we are all born with. They are stored in the brainstem and are present to help in the birthing process and the first few months of life until the postural reflexes take over. When the primitive reflexes are still present after 18 months of age, they impact the ability of the brain to grow properly.

A weak abdominal core impacts the ability of the body, specifically the nervous system, to transmit messages to and from the brain. The more you move your body, the more you strengthen your brain.

Research has proven that the neurological issues such as Autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia are the result of a hemispheric imbalance meaning that one hemisphere is overactive and the other underactive. By stimulating the weaker hemisphere, we can get the brain developing normally and correct the neurological issue the child is having.

It doesn’t happen overnight. It takes weeks, sometimes months, or even years depending on how severe the child is. But when the program is complete, the result is a child who is caught up to their neurotypical peers.
