We were lucky to catch up with Giana Shorthouse recently and have shared our conversation below.
Giana, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Finding my purpose has been a gradual and evolving journey. I’ve always felt a strong pull toward creative expression and helping people feel more connected to their environments. Over time, I realized that at the heart of my work, whether through interior design or other creative pursuits, is a desire to create spaces that foster balance, comfort, and a sense of belonging.
As I moved through different creative roles, like interior design and styling, I developed a deeper understanding of how design can influence how we feel in our surroundings. This realization has also sparked my interest in expanding my work to include more holistic approaches to design, like new services I’m developing, which focus on helping people create environments that truly reflect who they are.
It’s been a process of trusting my instincts, learning from each experience, and staying open to how my purpose continues to unfold.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an interior designer, and my focus has always been on creating spaces that not only look beautiful but also feel deeply aligned with the people who live and work in them. What excites me most about design is the ability to transform a space into something that feels both personal and intentional. I love working with natural materials, earthy tones, and thoughtful details to create environments that are warm, inviting, and a true reflection of my clients’ unique styles.
Right now, I’m especially focused on two new services that I’m developing. One is called Guided Design sessions, where I help clients make decisions about their space in a more collaborative and hands-on way, offering them personalized guidance without the need for a full design project. The other is Energy of Home sessions, which aim to help people better understand how to create spaces that feel balanced and aligned with their individual needs. These services are an exciting extension of my current work, and I’m looking forward to officially launching them soon.
I’ve recently relocated my studio to Los Angeles, though I continue to work with clients in Atlanta as well. This expansion is something I’m really excited about, and I’m eager to continue growing my practice in both cities. At the core of everything I do is a desire to help people feel at home—both in their spaces and in their lives.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Adaptability: The design world—and creative industries in general—are always evolving, so being adaptable has been crucial. From shifting creative roles to relocating my studio, I’ve learned to embrace change and remain open to new possibilities. For anyone early in their journey, I’d say don’t be afraid of the unknown. Flexibility allows you to pivot when opportunities or challenges arise, which can lead to unexpected growth.
2. Intuition: Trusting my instincts has guided me in making decisions that feel aligned with my values and vision. This has been especially true in design, where a lot of decisions come down to a sense of what feels right for a space. For those starting out, my advice is to cultivate a strong sense of self-awareness and learn to listen to your inner truth—it’s your most reliable guide, especially when things feel uncertain.
3. Commitment to Growth: I’ve always been curious and driven to keep learning, whether that’s through formal education or personal exploration. This ongoing commitment to growth keeps me inspired and ensures my work continues to evolve. For those at the beginning of their journey, stay curious and always seek out opportunities to expand your skills and knowledge. Even small, incremental progress can make a huge difference over time.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I’m always open to meaningful collaborations! I love working with people who share a passion for design, creativity, and bringing thoughtful ideas to life. Whether it’s other designers, artists, or creatives in adjacent fields like photography or wellness, I’m particularly interested in partnerships where we can combine our unique perspectives to create something truly special.
I’m also open to collaborating with brands or businesses that align with my values—I’m excited about the possibility of building relationships with people who have a shared vision of creating environments that are both beautiful and meaningful.
If you’re interested in collaborating or partnering, I’d love to connect. You can reach out through my website or via email, and I’m always happy to have a conversation to explore how we might work together.
