We were lucky to catch up with Kayla Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity definitely comes from my family values and upbringing. I was raised to always be humble no matter what the circumstances are so no matter what position I see someone in, I try to help to make it better. Generosity isn’t just about giving monetarily, It’s about being generous with your time, efforts and resources.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I own and operate a Catering business called Black L’Amour Cuisine & Catering LLC located in Baton Rouge, LA. My love for food drove me to my current career choice. Growing up in the South I was introduced to a lot of different foods, from wildlife to Cajun to fine dining. My family was also a very food friendly family as well lol. I got int he kitchen at a young age and never looked back. I started to expand my horizons and gain certifications in the culinary industry and that fueled my passion to work harder and create my own lane, my own brand. Here we are years later and I’m finally making my dreams come true.
What’s new with Black L’Amour Cuisine and Catering? Catch us at the Broadmoor High School Arts and Crafts Festival at Broadmoor High in Baton Rouge, LA November 23rd, 2024. We will be out there marketing and selling delicious food with hundreds of other talented businesses. As a Broadmoor High C/O 2008 I fully support my school and encourage others to come and support with a good time included.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The 3 most impactful skills that helped me are TIME MANAGEMENT, SELF DETERMINATION and KNOWLEDGE OF MY CAREER CHOICE. I had to spend a lot of time focusing on these three skills to be successful. Know your time frames and don’t rush yourself, its not good for yourself or your clients. Be self determined because it will be days where it feels like you want to give up and you may not have anyone to push you except YOU. Have knowledge of what you’re getting into, research your passion and become familiar with the industry and the start up costs you’ll be coming up with.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
A particular challenge I’m currently facing is financial stability for my new business in this economy, as I’m sure most businesses are after so many years of coming back from Covid and natural disasters, some days its a financial struggle but I keep in mind its all apart of the journey and the beginning is never the easiest part. Just keep pushing.
