Meet Giselle Fischman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Giselle Fischman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Giselle below.

Giselle, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I think my resilience comes from my ability to fail well and defining what success looks like to me. Society tends to have a negative connotation with failure and a very limited view of success. It removes this vail and pressure that every endeavor we do has to be “the one”. The faster you fail, the faster you fly!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I primarily act. But I’ve produced 2 short films and 7 plays with my producing partner. Our approach for theater was to take original screenplays and adapt them for the stage to showcase new writers and actors in order to pitch them for the screen. Most people ask, if on-screen is your goal why theater? Well, Nia Vardalos and her story of getting My Big Fat Greek Wedding made was a huge influence. The project started as a one-woman play, and well, the rest is history. I resinate with that approach.

Last summer, I produced my latest play-Donut Dollies. An original, I wrote and acted in that debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Its my current passion project I’m working on, more to come on that in 2025. I also have a short film that is in the last stages of completion, as well as a podcast in the works with my sister…stay tuned!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

-Become a good listener. We all want to feel validated and promote what we are working on, but when we do that in conversation we tend to not pay attention to what is happening around us. Put yourself in places where you are the least qulified and listen, you will learn more than you think.

-Make your physical health a priority. Working out, gets your mind right and helps you stay motivated and releases stress. It goes hand in hand with productivity and mental toughness.

-Stand firm on your goals, but flexible on the road to get there.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

They taught me that my identity was not based on what I did or how successful I become, but who I was in God. They instilled me that being the best wasn’t the most important but working hard and developing good character. Your door will open when its meant to, and in the mean time put your head down and grind.
