Meet Tiffanynichol’ Sweeney

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffanynichol’ Sweeney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi TiffanyNichol’, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Being a cosmetologist was never on my list of career choices, in-fact I didn’t even see it as a career. I was having a hard time adjusting to a new environment in high school. The school guidance counselor suggested some off campus options including dentistry and cosmetology, clearly I chose cosmetology.

I knew I was good at hairstyling but it wasn’t until about 10 years into my off and on journey in the beauty industry that I discovered my true purpose. Helping women who were experiencing hair loss be able to look in the mirror and love the image staring back at them again. This all came to the forefront when I installed hair extensions on a first time client. She loved it when she left but to my surprise a little over an hour later she returned with tears in her eyes. I was confused and nervous to talk with her. She reassured me that she was not upset, rather overwhelmed with happiness. When her husband arrived home and saw her hair he told her how beautiful she was. According to her ( let’s call her Miss M for privacy) her husband hadn’t said that in years and she was ashamed of her hair loss. We then began to experiment with different techniques some worked well and others didn’t. I was so connected to her journey and wanted to help not only her but other women with similar experiences. A few years later I cam across a program that would offer a hair loss specialist certification, gained knowledge on technique and how to restructure my business into a hair replacement center.

That is how I discovered my true purpose in cosmetology and have continued to broaden not only my skillset but also my customer journey. Hair loss is a sensitive condition and requires empathy, continued communication and confidentiality.

I have been blessed to serve the ladies and children who come into my business looking for help.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am TiffanyNichol’ I am a Hair Loss Specialist at Haute Headz Signature Salon and Hair Replacement.

I help women who are experiencing hair loss love their hair again. Whether it is through ccreating a custom scalp care plan during the beginning stages of hair thinning or designing natural looking non surgical hair replacement systems to suit my clients image, lifestyle and payment preferences.

We host events in salon to give women a safe, private space to talk about their hair loss journey and connect with other women in the hair loss community. The next event will be hosted in October.

We will be launching a new collection of Ready To Ship Wigs in October.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think being open to learning new things. Whether its a new technique, a new way of marketing, or a reminder to return to some soft skills that I may no longer be consistent in.

My greatest skillset behind the chair is the ability to execute a haircut/hairstyle to compliment my clients face.

I listen to what my clients needs are and also study trends in the industry, which leads me to my specialty in hair loss. I know what causes many forms of hair loss and I know what is in my scope of practice to treat and when to send my client to the dermatologist for diagnosis and medical treatments beyond my licensure.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

Getting To The Root
A Dermatologist’s and Cosmetologist’s Guide To Understanding HAIR!
Yolanda M. Lenzy, M.D., M.P.H.

As a licensed Cosmetologist we studied many hair and scalp disorders, but in this book Dr. Lenzy explaied them in detail from a medical perspective and empowered us with the tools to help our clients who are suffering with hair loss. The most valuable information I gained from this book is how nutrition impacts your hair. There are times when your hair loss is attributed to vitamin deficiencies which can be corrected with the proper supplements and or diet.
