Meet Buki Domingos

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Buki Domingos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Buki below.

Hi Buki , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

The honest answer to this question is I have no idea. My lows in life are enough to break anyone, even the strongest of folks, but here I am, still standing, unable to explain how and why I am called to lean into my spirituality and Christian faith and know that I am resilient because of God’s grace.

Furthermore, researchers are looking into how resilience connects with individuals who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Depression. This leaves the topic of resilience open for further research and deep discussions.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The most impactful part of my journey has been the support of my SOCIAL SUPPORT SYSTEM, keeping my eyes on the price despite obstacles and knowing fully well that nothing in life is stagnant. Things are constantly changing, which forces me to continue to have HOPE, knowing that the lows will pass and reminding myself of the highs to remain true to myself and my values.

Some excellent tips are always remembered when embarking on any journey, be it spiritual, career-focused, or relationship (business, platonic, or romantic); it must begin in your mind, for once the mind is decided and focused, the body and everything external will follow and if it does not always align, the fact that the decision came from within, will always be your map back to your purpose.

Another piece of advice is to know your tribe. The more confident you become in your purpose, the smaller the circle. Keep an open mind because your tribe may not always look like you or necessarily agree with you. One thing will be clear: relations will always be two-way, a give-and-take relationship.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

A childhood book immediately comes to mind. Things Fall Apart from the Nigerian author Chinua Achebe. The main nugget for me from reading this book and watching the show as a child born and raised in Nigeria, Africa, was the importance of navigating change without losing yourself.
