We recently connected with Elissa Goodman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elissa, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience was born out of necessity when I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at 32, and later with Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, and Celiac disease. Instead of following the traditional medical route, I chose to pursue an alternative, holistic approach to healing, which required not only a lot of strength but also a deep trust in my body’s ability to heal with the right nourishment and care.
Losing my husband Marc to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma further reinforced the importance of taking control of our health. His battle and my own health issues ignited a passion in me to not just survive, but to thrive. I channeled that energy into learning everything I could about nutrition and wellness, which eventually led me to create EG Kitchen and help others on their healing journeys.
Resilience, for me, is about persistence in the face of adversity, trusting your intuition, and using each setback as fuel to grow stronger. Every obstacle I’ve faced has made me more committed to living a healthy, purposeful life and helping others do the same.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At EG Kitchen, I help people heal and nourish their bodies through clean, plant-forward meals free from gluten, dairy, and seed oils. This passion for food as medicine comes from my own journey of overcoming cancer and autoimmune conditions.
I also work one-on-one with clients, running life-changing bloodwork panels to uncover the root causes of their symptoms and help them build sustainable, healthy lifestyles. Our cleanses, like the EG Kitchen Cleanse and new Digestion Reset, offer a transformative reset, and we’ve recently added fall salads packed with seasonal produce.
My goal is to make wellness easy, helping people feel their best through personalized nutrition and holistic support.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities that had the most impact on my journey were resilience, a deep commitment to learning, and self-compassion.
Self-compassion and self-talk were key. It’s so important to monitor how we speak to ourselves, especially about what we think we’re capable of. Our bodies are designed to heal themselves when we give them the right tools. Be patient and kind to yourself—celebrate small wins and nurture your emotional and physical well-being. These qualities will guide you on your path to healing.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
One book that played a pivotal role in my personal development is Dying to Be Me by Anita Moorjani. Anita shares her near-death experience and her journey of healing from terminal cancer. What resonated most with me was her realization that fear, guilt, and self-criticism were barriers to her healing, and it was only when she let go of these that she experienced a profound shift.
Some of the most valuable nuggets of wisdom include the importance of living authentically, embracing self-love, and recognizing the power of our own thoughts in shaping our reality. Anita’s story reaffirms the idea that we are capable of incredible healing when we trust ourselves, release fear, and tune into the body’s innate wisdom. This message deeply aligns with my own journey of holistic healing and self-compassion.
