Meet Jasmaine Breen

We were lucky to catch up with Jasmaine Breen recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmaine , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic comes from my mom. As a kid, I watched my mom go to school and work to ensure my brother and I were always taken care of. My mom taught me the value of a dollar and the value or truly putting in the work to get where you want to go.

With that, it’s important to understand that just because you work a little does not mean all the things you want will just come to you. You have to consistently work and put in the effort.!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Currently I am an Account Manager at Sunset Transportation during the day. By night and honestly any other time, I’m a historian and content creator. My brand was originally called HERSTORY, but I decided that I needed a different name with something extra, so I decided on Belle Vie.

Belle Vie is French for Beautiful Life. As a historian, you learn that there is a lot of beauty in pain, when exploring history. You learn that without such sometimes horrific events, beautiful people and other events would not have brewed. History has always been my passion and we are all a part of history. My purpose is to teach that. Belle vie is my brand that serves as a reminder to everyone that you are the writer of your own history. You have the paper, pen and subject already. History lives within all of us and all of us are history.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Patience
2. Consistency
3. Interpersonal skills

I believe society has created this idea that fame or fortune will magically appear overnight, for average people such as myself, it truly does take time. It takes trial and error. It takes some days of crying and being frustrated. I’m technically still early in my journey. I would tell anyone that you have to be patient. You have to be ready and willing to try something and it not work. Sometimes you have to fail in order to look back and see what needs to be altered, so you can make the next step even better.

You have to be consistent too, which is hard for a lot of us! But constantly posting content or videos or articles, etc, ., it will take you further. Also knowing how to talk to different people is so important. You never know who you may come across or who may be willing to help you. It’s all boils down to believing in yourself and knowing that the journey will be hard.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

My dream collaboration is with the history channel! I grew up watching the history channel and soaking up as much information as possible.

As a fellow historian, I want to be a part of the conversation of why history is important and teaching it in ways that are more appealing.
