Meet Agustina Alvarado

We recently connected with Agustina Alvarado and have shared our conversation below.

Agustina, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I’ve always loved entertaining my family at events, and making everyone around me laugh gave me the biggest confidence boost. However, I truly realized I wanted to be a performer the first time I stepped on stage. At 9 years old, I recreated the final dance Abigail Breslin performs in the movie “Little Miss Sunshine.” While dancing, I felt a joy I had never experienced before. Wearing a costume and pretending for a few minutes in front of strangers was something I had never done before. Despite my doubts and a bit of stage fright, once I was in the moment, nothing could make me feel bad or uncomfortable.

A few years later, I decided to pursue journalism because writing was also something I enjoyed. However, after finishing school, I knew something was missing in my life. I had taken some acting and theater classes as a hobby, and every time I reconnected with that part of myself, I felt a strong desire to continue doing it. Acting was something I was willing to do without any reward or compensation because it made me feel whole and happy.

I saved money and moved to LA in January 2023 to study acting and pursue this dream. Even though it’s been challenging, I have an inner drive and a gut feeling that pushes me to keep going through the slower times. The support of my family members, who believe in me and give me the confidence to use my resources, has been invaluable as I rediscover myself and my passion.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a Chilean actress and journalist who moved to LA to pursue my dream of being a performer. I’m mostly passionate about thrillers, drama, and comedy. I love working with new people on projects that challenge me emotionally and allow me to explore different genres. I have a theater background from back home, but here in LA, I’ve been focusing more on improving my camera presence, which is what I’m truly passionate about.
I came to LA to obtain an acting certificate from UCLA Extension. Along the way, I’ve met many people and made friends who have boosted my confidence and made me feel less alone in this journey. I initially struggled with breaking into the industry, but last year, I had the opportunity to be part of a horror short film—a genre I deeply love. Being on set confirmed my passion for acting and my enjoyment of becoming someone else within a creative story that’s completely different from my own.
I’m also very interested in writing, so I’m starting a blog where I share personal stories, primarily with a comedic angle. I’m considering turning these stories into potential scripts, though that idea is still in the exploration and development stage. I’m excited about this project and hope to share it soon.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities and skills that I believe have impacted me throughout this journey are resilience, patience, and loyalty. In this industry, it’s crucial to be able to adapt, especially when starting from scratch in a new country. I didn’t know anyone when I moved to LA, so being open to navigating this new city, meeting new people, and exploring new spaces has been essential for connecting with others and finding my path to achieving my goals.

In building connections, it has also been very important to be loyal and honest in order to maintain a certain level of trust. LA is a huge city, and finding people you can rely on and feel supported by is challenging. Being a loyal person has helped me surround myself with the right people during difficult times.

Regarding patience, there will always be frustration and slower periods, so it has been crucial for me to remember that things happen when they’re meant to and that every journey is unique. We often compare ourselves to our peers, but ultimately, we are competing with ourselves and no one else. I also believe in the importance of boosting yourself daily in front of a mirror. Another strategy I use is to imagine that I’m already where I want to be. No one else can truly measure how far you’ve come, and it’s good to remember that I’m already where my past self aspired to be. Inevitably, I will reach where my present self dreams of being.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m always looking to collaborate and connect with new people in the industry! I would love to be part of a project that allows me to explore a wide range of emotions. I have a passion for dramas, TV shows, and movies that feature big plot twists and dynamic changes, and that’s the direction I’m aiming for in my next project.

I’d like to meet directors, producers, and screenwriters who want to create or bring complex characters to life and see what we can develop together. I believe small-budget projects need more visibility, and we should help each other get that exposure. Everything starts from a small place, and it’s important to support and work with people who are on the same path so we can grow together in the same direction.
