Meet Mya Banks

We recently connected with Mya Banks and have shared our conversation below.

Mya, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Keeping creativity alive, for me, is through everyday inspiration. Anything from a song, to a mural painting in the city to the google searches I do for aesthetic ideas to create something that reflects me and allows other people to see what I see. It’s pretty cool being able to express yourself in a specific way and people know that its you– and for me that’s what I want to do as a photographer. Being able to have an idea, build it, bring it into fruition, and it turn out the way I envisioned it puts a smile on my face.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

For those unbeknownst, my name is Mya Banks from Greensboro, NC and residing in Durham, NC. Outside of the normal 9-5 gig in IT, I provide services as a photographer, videographer and content creator for friends, family and those referred. In the past two year or so I managed to turn what started as a hobby into a passion–and up and coming small business as a freelance photographer and videographer that I call ‘aFoeyedVision’.

What I will say is the most exciting part about this venture, is the people that I encounter and have built great relationships with that have been referred from past people that I have worked with or from friends and family. What I want people to know about my brand, about me, is that your ideas, your vision–is safe with me and you can trust me to deliver.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Although this new found venture came later in life, I have learned more about myself in the past 2 years of this journey and in life in general. Communication has always been a natural skill and is one of the most impactful skills when putting your services and/or product out to the masses as it can be via social media/content creation, face to face, networking settings–its all about making sure that you that you are having something to build long last relationships with people, creating a trust factor. Confidence is not only impactful in business but also in life–and having that quality is one that doesn’t come easy to obtain for some but with the right people/support system, that confidence will remain intact and just continue to build. It also plays a factor of being able to step out on faith, as most small business and creatives do to pursue their passion and bring it to fruition. At some point, we all make sacrifices for better change and better outcomes. An area of knowledge that I can definitely say has been impactful for me personally is Resilience. Setbacks and failures come in all aspects. Ultimately, it’s the way you maneuver to bounce back and get back on your feet. In pursuit of evolving my business, I’ve had moments where I’ve felt like a failure, let myself have the moment, pray about it and handle it in a more positive light– outweighing the pros and cons, come up with a new game plan and let everything fall into place.

If I could give any advise to anyone that is thinking of or has already started on the journey, is that it will all fall in to place. Be patience and know that things may not come when you want it but they will arrive on time in due time. In terms of development, if Im being honest, Im still learning on ways to improve myself, everyday so I will say this… take your time, trust the process of your craft and process. Promote, market and make it fun — don’t be afraid to put yourself out there

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely! Collaborations are a way to show a shared expression bringing thoughts, talents, and experiences. Look at people in music– those that share the same sentiments for love, loss, happy, all of life’s stages and create some of the best songs that we love today. I like to look for people that look for an expression that belongs to everyone– from artists, to other visionaries (i.e photographers and videographers) podcasters even. So, if by chance you’re reading this, let’s make some magic together! (IG: @4oeyedvision; Portfolio: //afoeeyedvision.myportfolio.com)
