Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paola Ortiz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
PAOLA, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
That’s something I work on every day—it’s a never-ending process. Developing confidence and self-esteem go hand in hand, and I’ve learned that the hard way. For me, confidence is like a muscle, and the only way I’ve been able to develop it is by pushing myself to do the tough things—things I was scared of or doubted I could handle. A strong self-esteem comes when you realize that the biggest mountain you need to overcome is yourself.
Opening AvoBeer came with so many fears and doubts. Little things, like building a team from scratch, making all the decisions myself, and learning to trust those decisions without constantly second-guessing them, were real challenges. I had to learn that making mistakes is better than doing nothing at all because fear paralyzes you. And when you do nothing, it builds anxiety and stress. Making a decision, whether it’s right or wrong, is always better than being stuck in indecision.
Essentially, building confidence is about doing the hard things—doing them despite what people think or even what you think of yourself sometimes. You just have to go with it, even if it’s with fear. There have been so many moments that scared me—showing my face on social media, negotiating with distributors, employees, and clients. But the truth is, there’s no way around it. You just have to go through it. And every time you do, you get a little bit stronger.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that confidence isn’t built from success—it’s built by how you handle failure. It’s easy to feel good when everything’s going smoothly, but real confidence comes from those moments when things fall apart, when nothing goes as planned, and you’re left standing in the aftermath. That’s when you truly test your resilience.
There have been plenty of moments like that for me—times when a deal didn’t go through, or I made a decision that backfired. But I’ve realized that it’s in those moments, not the victories, where confidence is born. It’s about standing back up, facing the discomfort, and moving forward anyway. Every time I’ve failed, I’ve had to remind myself that mistakes are part of the process. Each one makes me stronger, more capable, and more prepared for the next challenge.
Confidence isn’t just about taking risks; it’s about embracing the fact that failure will happen—and trusting that you’ll handle it when it does.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
AvoBeer is a unique beer brewed with different elements of the avocado, making it truly one-of-a-kind. Born in Mexico, AvoBeer has grown into something much bigger, and this year, we’re expanding throughout Florida, Texas, and Spain. But beyond the ingredients and our origins, what makes AvoBeer so special is that it’s a women-owned business in a male-dominated industry. Breaking barriers and supporting other women is at the core of what we do, proving that women can lead, innovate, and succeed in the business world.
At the heart of AvoBeer are our core values: being authentic, bold, and fearless. Every decision we make, from our recipes to the way we approach the business, reflects those values. While our Mexican roots are a proud part of our story, AvoBeer is about more than tradition—it’s about pushing boundaries and being unafraid to stand out.
What’s especially exciting right now is that you’ll soon be able to find AvoBeer in selected Whole Foods and Total Wine stores in Florida. It’s a huge milestone for us, and seeing the brand grow into such respected retailers is incredibly rewarding.
Ultimately, AvoBeer is about more than just beer—it’s about being fearless, authentic, and making an impact. We’re here to support women and bring something unique and meaningful to the craft beer world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that had the biggest impact on my journey were resilience, decisiveness, and creativity.
Resilience is essential because there are always setbacks. Whether it’s a deal falling through or something not going as planned, the ability to bounce back is key. For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to embrace failure as part of the process. You’ll make mistakes, and things won’t always go your way, but each challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow stronger.
Decisiveness is another critical skill. In business, indecision can lead to missed opportunities and unnecessary stress. I had to learn that making a decision, even if it’s the wrong one, is better than doing nothing. When you take action, you move forward. For those starting out, practice trusting your gut and making decisions quickly. You’ll get better at it over time, and it’s a skill that will serve you well.
Finally, creativity has been a driving force, especially with AvoBeer. Being able to think outside the box and create something unique helped us stand out. My advice is to always stay open to new ideas and not be afraid to innovate. Whether it’s finding a solution to a problem or coming up with a fresh concept, creativity is what will set you apart.
For anyone early in their journey, I’d say focus on these three areas—develop your resilience, practice decisiveness, and nurture your creativity. These qualities will carry you through the highs and lows of any business or personal endeavor.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The number one challenge we’re facing right now with AvoBeer is building brand awareness. We have a unique product and a strong story, but the challenge is making sure people know about it and understand what makes us different.
To overcome this, we’re focusing heavily on strategic partnerships and targeted marketing. We’re collaborating with influencers and restaurants to create engaging content that showcases AvoBeer in real-life settings. We’re also planning events and tastings to introduce people to the product firsthand, which has always been an effective way to build a loyal customer base. On top of that, as we expand into the shelves, we’re working on in-store promotions and displays to capture the attention of new customers.
We’re also leaning into our digital presence by ramping up social media efforts, especially on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, where we can visually share the story of AvoBeer and connect with our audience in a more personal way. It’s a challenge, but with a focused strategy, we’re confident that we’ll continue to grow our brand awareness and reach new customers.
