Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Willie Tuggle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Willie, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self-esteem by various methods such as observation, trials and errors, completion of task at hand ,seeking advice of others when needed. I don’t think outside the box or inside the box, I think outside of outside.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the jack of many trades. I’m also a professional in the Maritime Industry.. I have some industry first accomplishments. Some are found in the Marine Log / Willie Tuggle article. I’ve been featured in many magazines such as “ 2008 Innovator of the Year City Business, New Orleans “. Inside Northside Magazine, The “ Times Picayune news paper New Orleans, Inducted into the Heritage Park Veterans Museum ( the 1st USCG Veteran to be inducted in the museum ), feature upcoming The long Blue Line Magazine, July 2023. I am also a Licensed & Ordained Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a Certified Public Theologian. Several other credentials.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the maritime industry played an important role in my life. After retiring from the USCG , I became a Merchant Mariner. Because of my Coast Guard background it was easy for me to move up the ranks to become a Merchant Marine Officer. However, in 1996, I entered and completed a 12 month recovery program because of mind altering substances. We do recover !!!
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I believe it’s better to well rounded. Have more than one iron in the fire. Get that degree if possible but certificates will get you to becoming self sufficient quicker while you’re attaining the degrees. The more you learn about a lot of areas the more valuable you are. I’m skilled in many other areas too, to many to mention here.
