We were lucky to catch up with Keri Lynne Shaw recently and have shared our conversation below.
Keri Lynne, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I asked myself 3 questions:
What do I love?
What am I good at?
How am I or do I want to make an impact on the world?
And I started meditating….every day for 365 days.
And this opened my mind and my heart to all the possibilities based on the answers to the above.
I also went to India and did an Ayurveda retreat and this combined was a magical experience.
I realized if I can spend more of my time doing what I love, what I’m good at and making an impact, I will be happier and more fulfilled.
My answers:
I love helping people be at their best, get out of their own way, seeing their special gifts.
I’m good at listening and asking deep questions. I’m also good at solving complex problems.
I am making an impact by helping people change their lives.
My purpose:
To help people unlock their potential.
This was a purposeful journey I went on and couldn’t be happier with how things have happened for me as a result of me getting clarity first….then doubling down and investing in ME!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I help people in career transition – and truly own it with confidence!
I have two products:
The Career Bump & The Salary Bump
The Career Bump’s mission is to empower people to get in the driver’s seat of their career and learn to take the wheel. I serve as their co-pilot (aka roadie) to help them design their road map, gain confidence every day, help them see blind spots, recover after potholes etc. If they’re stuck – we help them get unstuck. If they’re “meh” – we help them get to fulfillment. If they’re miserable – we help them find their confidence to shine.
The Salary Bump’s mission is to empower people to truly understand their worth on the market. The fact is everyone is leaving money on the table and I’m here to help change that! I firmly believe that knowledge is power—especially when it comes to salary negotiations. It’s built on the foundation of educating professionals on how to effectively articulate their value, effectively negotiate and secure the compensation they deserve. It’s not just about asking for more, although a critical step most people don’t take; it’s about crafting a narrative that positions each negotiation as a win-win, ensuring both parties walk away feeling valued and satisfied with the result.
I love to travel and experience new cultures.
I’m also learning to ballroom dance!! Something I’ve wanted to do for years!!!!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Optimism
Curiosity
Grit
There is always a solution – we’re usually not dealing with life or death situations so stop worrying!
Ask questions, then ask more questions….the more you know, the better solution you can provide and ensure it’s the right one.
Don’t stop – even when it’s hard. Stay strong. Stay consistent. Don’t give up.
And lastly, don’t believe everything you hear…..especially from that voice in your head!
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The trusted me. They rarely gave me advice and when I asked them much later in life why they didn’t, they answered “we always knew you’d figure it out and find your way.” wow….that hit!
