Meet Jose Valverde

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jose Valverde a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jose, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?

From accountability. I used to think motivation was the only necessary force that would drive me but motivation runs out and you get stuck trying to figure out your next move so I began going to the gym and at first I didn’t see results so that frustrated me but I realized it’s a journey of hard work and consistence and accountability that you build up to your success and only you can build yourself up or tear yourself down.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Jose and I am an artists, a visual artists that also does music and murals, when people approach my art they feel connected to it and that is such an important part of my art. I tell stories through my paintings that resonate with other people no matter their nationality my art is for everybody and we all experience the same things just not in the same shoes. As a Mexican/Native American I am proud of my background and I love to learn and expose my culture through the colorful tapestry that reflect my losses my victories and my journey.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

When I started painting I was going through one of the roughest parts of my life. My mental health wasn’t at its 100% neither was my health and I was lost trying to survive instead of living. So I believe those areas impacted me in becoming the person I wanted to be, I believe that having a creative mindset will help you see the world in its beauty and experience darkness and excel through that darkness by keeping a positive mindset that allows us to become a magnet for positive thinkers and goal setters that will teach you to love yourself to be the best version of yourself and to grow from that person you thought you were stuck to or thought it was the you. I think that the most important advice I can give others who are coming up is not to give up to be persistent, success will come at its due time just focus on your personal growth and make sure you build an environment around you that will help you thrive and become the best version of yourself everyday. Discipline yourself and make yourself accountable every single day

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am a firm believer that if you thrive it’s because your community helped you and it’s up to you to help the community back, creating opportunities and helping others with resources and a vision of change so my ideal people doesn’t really have to have my way of thinking in terms of how I got here but have a vision of what we want to accomplish in the future. Wether is musicians, visual artists, poets etc I want people to feel welcomed and safe in an environment of creativity and growth
