Meet Melissa Sewer

We recently connected with Melissa Sewer and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

I overcame imposter syndrome by recognizing my achievements, reframing self-doubt, and embracing the idea that growth and learning are essential to success. By focusing on the value and impact I provide, rather than chasing perfection, I gradually built my confidence.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I work as an Absence Consultant and a Food Blogger for CLT Food and Fun, and each role excites me in its own way. As a consultant, I take on diverse projects across different industries, solving unique business challenges. The constant variety keeps things interesting, as no two projects are alike, and it also gives me the chance to collaborate with professionals at all levels of an organization.
As a food blogger, I get to tap into my creativity, exploring a wide array of cuisines, restaurants, and cultural food experiences. It’s a journey of discovering new flavors, building a loyal community of fellow food lovers, and connecting with other bloggers, chefs, and industry experts. In the near future, I’m excited to collaborate with more businesses and take my blogging adventures to new heights.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The qualities and skills that had the greatest impact on my journey were rooted in a willingness to step outside my comfort zone and embrace new experiences. Being unafraid to try new things opened doors to opportunities I might have otherwise missed. Staying open to continuous learning was equally essential, as it allowed me to grow, adapt, and refine my skills along the way. Finally, being my own biggest cheerleader was crucial—believing in myself and staying motivated, even when challenges arose, helped me push through obstacles and stay focused on my goals.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The book The Four Agreements played a significant role in my personal development by offering simple yet powerful principles that helped reshape how I approach life and relationships. One of the most valuable takeaways was the first agreement, “Be Impeccable with Your Word.” It taught me the importance of being mindful of how I communicate, both with myself and others. This encouraged me to speak with integrity and avoid negative self-talk, which was transformative for my confidence and personal growth.

Another impactful lesson was the second agreement, “Don’t Take Anything Personally.” This shifted my mindset by helping me understand that other people’s actions and words are often a reflection of their own reality, not a direct judgment of me. This wisdom has been crucial in helping me navigate difficult situations with grace and reducing unnecessary stress.

Lastly, “Always Do Your Best” resonated deeply. It reminded me to consistently put forth effort, not for perfection, but for self-satisfaction and progress. This concept freed me from self-criticism and the pressure of comparison, allowing me to embrace my journey at my own pace.

These nuggets of wisdom helped shape a mindset grounded in self-awareness, resilience, and authenticity, positively impacting both my personal and professional life.
