Hi Jessenia, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience is a beautiful testament to my late Grandmother Antonia’s enduring spirit. From the moment I was born, she exemplified what it means to be a pillar of strength. Her journey, from being a single mother to living as an amputee, showcases her incredible ability to overcome obstacles. Her philosophy that “no” wasn’t an option and “you can’t” was never acceptable has always been truly inspiring to me.

I see so much of myself in her, and it’s clear that her determination and perseverance have deeply influenced me. Naming one of my top-selling products after her is just a small tribute to the enormous imprint she has left on my life. Each new order not only celebrates my success but also keeps her memory alive, reminding me of her unwavering support and the strength she has instilled in me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

In April of 2023, I left the predictable corporate life to turn her passion into a flourishing business…

As a proud Puerto Rican mother of two, I found my purpose intertwined with my high school sweetheart, my partner in both life and business. Together, we embarked on a remarkable journey, transforming my passion into a thriving event signage enterprise.

My story echoes the spirit of determination. I emerged from humble origins, fueled not by privilege but by unwavering resolve. The walls of that tiny room I started in absorbed my dreams, and the glow of my visions illuminated every late-night work session while my family slept. I was and still am very aware that this path would be strewn with hurdles, but I cling to the belief that nothing can deter me.

In April of 2023, I turned that small room into my very first storefront and it’s so much more than just your typical brick and mortar. It is a testament to love, partnership, and the audacity to defy odds. In less than a year, that small storefront has now turned into a huge production shop.

My specialty? Personalized signs that capture and celebrate the special moments in life. Whether it’s for weddings, birthdays, or any milestone, I craft signs that commemorate your event in a unique way.

I am also the founder of the Laser Focused Community, centralized in NJ, which brings fellow signage artists together for positive collaborations and support. Additionally, I helped co-found The Everyday Entrepreneur, an industry-agnostic, gender-inclusive community aiming to help entrepreneurs across all sectors.

I am the architect of my destiny, shaping my legacy one custom sign at a time.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are:

1) Resilience: My journey has been filled with challenges and obstacles, but my ability to stay resilient has been crucial. Resilience allowed me to push through tough times, learn from failures, and keep moving forward with determination.

2) Creativity: As a signage artist, creativity is at the heart of what I do. It’s not just about making beautiful signs, but also about finding innovative solutions to meet my clients’ needs and making each piece unique and memorable.

3) Community Building: Founding the Laser Focused Community and co-founding The Everyday Entrepreneur have taught me the importance of building and nurturing a supportive network. These communities have provided invaluable support, collaboration opportunities, and a sense of belonging, which have been instrumental in my personal and professional growth.

For those just beginning their journey, I strongly recommend seeking out local groups where you can connect with like-minded individuals who can support and accompany you along the way. While having best friends and close family members who support me has been invaluable, there’s just nothing like the camaraderie of those who are in the same trenches with me.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

My biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months has been in no longer comparing myself to others. I’ve realized that comparison is the thief of joy and it hinders my progress. There is only one me, and while others may try to imitate or copy my work, they can never match what I bring to the table. The industry is becoming oversaturated, and while I wish everyone well, it’s clear who is in it for the trend and who is truly passionate. By minding my own business and focusing solely on myself, I’ve experienced exponential growth and found much more success. This shift in mindset has allowed me to thrive and fully embrace my unique contributions to the signage world.
