Meet Laura Tinajero

We were lucky to catch up with Laura Tinajero recently and have shared our conversation below.

Laura , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I found my purpose after many years of searching, because it is not easy, but I finally realized that each person has one or more purposes in life. One of my purposes is to investigate and show what I research in the historical tours that I give to tourists from all over the world who come to my city, Seville.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a tourist guide in Seville, Spain, and also a historian. I alternate my work as a researcher with that of heritage interpretation. My job consists of going to the city’s historical archives and extracting information from the 15th to the 17th centuries, and occasionally later (18th and 19th centuries). All this information, in addition to my general knowledge about the Art and customs of my city, I show to my clients who want a historical tour of our centuries-old monuments and quarters: Alcázar, Cathedral, Plaza de España, Jewish Quarter, Triana…

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My three areas where I feel most comfortable are historical research, music (I love singing) and teaching. And I put all this into practice on my tours. I love that my clients leave my city knowing more about it, especially the latest research, as well as knowing our customs, our music and traditions.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

In the last 12 months I have learned a lot about the people who trust my services as a tour guide, both colleagues who sometimes need a substitute and clients. I have also managed to greatly improve my English at a technical level, specific architecture vocabulary for example… And to improvise, solve travelers’ problems and adapt to each person.
