Meet Qutunuia Benoit-carter

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Qutunuia Benoit-carter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Qutunuia, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

Experience…. I’ve learned that everything isn’t as bad as it seems. If you keep an open mind and work hard, sometimes you can change the narrative. But if you fail at something, at least you’ve tried, and you can keep trying until you succeed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My focus is on creating honest to God, real all natural products. I am a natural hair and body moisture product creator, so I consider myself to be a bit of an artist, lol. Not everyone is able to handcraft their products from the ground up. the acronym QJ’s, stand for my husband and I first names. My husband is the one who pushed me to pursue my dreams of being a natural product creator. Coming from the medical field, I’ve always had this thing about skin, and how delicate it is. It’s important to take care of your body as a whole, but your skin is a gate way to the inside of your body. So it’s extremely important to take care it. As some people may or may not know, it’s a lot of products out here, that claim to be 100% natural, but aren’t. If you look at what some use to sustain shelf life, it takes it out of the “all natural” category. I take my time and study every single oil, butter, plant, and colorant, before I even consider using it. Every flower used for fragrance is carefully and cruelty free tested, before I create each product line. Recently I’ve lunched my new beard care line, that’s scented with sweet tobacco and sandlewood vanilla. The most exciting thing about me making these product, is the joy that my return customers bring. They tell me how good my products make their skin feel, how relaxing my bath soaks are, and so much more. I just love to make people feel better, and that is a joy in it’s self. My hope is to be a household name one day, and to own multiple stores, where my products can be made on site. As of now, my products can be found locally at FADE THE CITY barbershop and True Spa Day Spa, here in Houston, Tx.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Determination, optimism, and work ethics…. I’ve obtained them all from being in the medical field. Even if I fail at something, I don’t let that stop me from trying again. I keep God first, and give everything I do, my absolute best. I’ve learned to look at the glass half full. instead of half empty, because it could be worse. Hard work and determination will take you a long way, and I’ve learned that from watching my mom as a single parent. My mom raise two kids on her own, put herself through college and held down two jobs. Now, you want to talk about strong willed…. But she never quit, she never gave up, and that’s what made me the person I am today. Building a brand / business isn’t for the weak, but it’s reachable if you work hard, and remain humble and optimistic.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

God…. But as far as earthly person, Rhonda Nutall. She has been my mentor, my diary, my coach, jewel dropper, info desk…You name it, she’s that. She’s the business savvy “IT GIRL”.
