We recently connected with Rashamod Torrance and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Rashamod with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic came from my mother. My mom was such a hard worker and the values that my grandparents instilled within her, were passed down to me and my sister. I was always taught that I could accomplish anything that I put my mind to, and that manners and being respectful and relatable would open many doors for me. She also taught me be anchored within my faith and to pray about all ideas that I would think of. Nothing will come to my mind that I won’t have the tools to accomplish.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Father, Creative, and Community builder are a few words to describe me. I am the founder of The Active Dad, which is an fatherhood based organization that creates community for fathers and their kids by hosting events for kids and for dads to connect with other dads. Active Dad focuses on helping fathers be better dads to their children, while also creating a safe space for dads to speak about the good and also struggles that come along with fatherhood. Earlier on after becoming a dad I realized that there is a need for community when it comes to fathers. So many of us are in need of support, and guidance and Active Dad is here to create that for men all over the US. Every 3rd Wednesday I host Virtual Dad Tribe meetings that allow dads to connect with other dads from all over the US and we deep dive numerous topics around mental health and engage in healthy conversation. Knowing the importance of Mens Mental Health I am the author of Dadfirmations, a 30 day guide for me to shift their mental health and empower fathers.
At the moment we have multiple dad tribes in 11 cities right now, and are preparing for leg 2 of the Ice Cream with Dad Tour. Ice Cream with Dad is a event that began as a playdate that has birthed a nation wide movement. The event allows for dads to support local ice cream shops while connecting with other dad and their kids.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Endurance, Confidence, Community.
Endurance – Endurance was important along this journey because success is not an easy task. Over the years I’ve taught myself that if this was easy everyone would be doing it. Learning to be resilient and to keep pushing through everything that is thrown your way has kept me grounded on this road to building my organization.
Confidence – I’d say that confidence is key because if you don’t believe in yourself, how can you possibly expect others to believe in you. Confidence has been very essential on this journey because who would follow a non confident leader. Being confident in yourself and your brand not only builds yourself up, but it also empowers and motivates everyone who is a part of what you are building.
Community – We is better than me. Being able to have like minded people around you that you can lean on is a game changer. The power of community is something that I feel has helped me through life. All the work that I am doing would not be as great without my team and tribe leaders.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
There are a couple of things I do when overwhelmed because attempting to balance it all is a task lol. The first thing I do is breathe. My therapist has taught me that incorporating breathing exercises is is a complete game changer and good for your mental health. After breathing I will typically go running or try to hit the gym. When running it’s a huge feeling or relief that I experience when releasing those endorphins, which I feel is the same way I feel after a good workout. Lastly I try to communicate what I’m feeling to my wife, bestfriends, or therapist (if I have an upcoming session). I’ve not always been the easiest to open up, but I’m learning through creating these spaces for fathers that many struggles that we face in life we are not alone at all.
