Meet Isabella Diaz

We were lucky to catch up with Isabella Diaz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Isabella, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I’d say the key to keeping my creativity alive is being okay with experimenting. As a songwriter and producer, I’m always challenging myself to try new things. It’s easy to stick to what I’m used to when I’m producing a new song or composing a melody. But I’ve found that I’m the most inspired whenever I try something new. The lyrics flow more seemlessly, and the writing process always feels more meaningful.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a singer-songwriter, producer, and independent Pop artist from Tampa. I’ve been releasing original music since 2020. Through the years, I’ve released various music videos, and I’ve been performing locally. This June, I finally released my debut album, “Trapped In Time”! My music is diverse. Some is upbeat, some are ballads, and others have orchestral moments. I think my music is special because each song is different and has its own personality. I also feel that my music represents a combination of the music styles and genres that have influenced me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

First, I’d say self-discipline has been the most helpful asset through this journey. Balancing music and my personal life has been challenging, but I’ve learned some time management strategies that work for me. Also, I’ve had to remind myself not to rush the creative process. It’s tempting for me to release songs when I’m excited for others to hear them. It’s important to make sure I’m completely satisfied with the music before releasing it. Lastly, music that’s “old” to me might be “new” to someone else. In the past, my marketing plans have been mainly focused on releases. I realized it doesn’t matter whether the music was released yesterday or three years ago; what matter is that I’m posting new content and reaching new people who enjoy what they hear.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I’m overwhelmed I like to journal. I turn away from any technology, and I grab a pen and notebook. It’s relieving to see my thoughts on a page where they’re physical, rather than abstract. I also go to the gym. On the treadmill, I close my eyes and visualize walking or running away from my stress. I also find reading to be very therapeutic. Finally, my piano is my safe space. Sometimes, my most meaningful songs come from times spent reflecting by my piano.
