Meet Kiara Luna

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kiara Luna a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiara , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Finding my purpose was a journey deeply connected to my personal healing and growth. It started with my own experiences navigating trauma and emotional challenges, which led me to realize how much our past shapes our future. Over time, I became passionate about understanding the mind-body connection and how holistic healing can empower people to break free from limiting beliefs and childhood wounds.

When I opened my private practice, Knew You Psychotherapy, it felt like a natural extension of my mission. Through my work with clients, I not only help others heal but also continue my own healing journey. Seeing the transformation in people’s lives confirmed that I was aligned with my purpose: guiding others toward emotional freedom, healthier relationships, and personal empowerment. My purpose is rooted in helping people embrace their truth, overcome adversity, and bloom into the person they are meant to be.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m Kiara Luna, the CEO and founder of Knew You Psychotherapy, a mental health practice that focuses on healing childhood trauma and empowering individuals and couples to thrive. My practice operates both in New York and Florida, where we provide holistic mental health services designed to address the mind, body, and soul. What excites me most about my work is witnessing people shed the emotional baggage that has held them back and finally step into their authentic selves. It’s an honor to guide clients on their healing journeys and to see them transform into more empowered versions of themselves.

One thing that makes Knew You Psychotherapy special is our approach to therapy. We blend evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the Gottman Method with mindfulness practices and holistic approaches that address the whole person. This allows us to cater to the unique needs of each client, whether they’re dealing with anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, or other challenges.

As for what’s new, we recently launched two powerful group therapy programs. One is “Empowered Healing: A Closed Group for Narcissistic Abuse Recovery,” which provides a safe space for individuals to process and heal from narcissistic abuse. The other is “Healing Through the Holidays: Navigating Grief Together,” an 8-week virtual group designed to help individuals cope with grief during the holiday season. We’ve also expanded our digital offerings by launching mini-courses, such as “Speak Your Heart Out: Mastering Communication and Emotional Expression in Relationships.” This course is available on Gumroad and offers a practical way for couples to enhance their emotional connection.

Our biggest focus now is on growth and expansion. We’re looking to hire more therapists to serve even more clients, while also developing a mental health app that will help clients engage with therapy in a more flexible and accessible way. The app will include features like journaling, meditation, and downloadable worksheets. We want to create a supportive, interactive space for healing that fits into people’s daily lives.

Ultimately, Knew You Psychotherapy is about helping people embrace their truth and live unapologetically. I’m proud to say that we’re making a real impact in the lives of our clients and our community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I’d say three key qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, empathy, and strategic thinking.

Resilience has been essential in navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship and personal growth. Building a business is not easy, and there are many moments where things don’t go as planned. For me, resilience meant learning from failures, adjusting my strategies, and continuously moving forward no matter the setbacks. For those early in their journey, I recommend embracing failures as part of the process. They’re not the end of the road, but rather opportunities to pivot and grow stronger.

Empathy is another quality that has shaped both my personal and professional life. As a therapist, it’s vital to understand what people are going through on a deep emotional level, but empathy extends beyond therapy sessions. It’s about being able to connect with people in your personal life and in business, understanding their needs, challenges, and dreams. To develop empathy, it’s crucial to practice active listening—whether it’s with clients, colleagues, or loved ones. Be present, listen without judgment, and make an effort to see the world through their eyes.

Lastly, strategic thinking has helped me build my business and expand my impact. When I started Knew You Psychotherapy, I had a clear vision of where I wanted to take it, but strategic planning was necessary to turn that vision into reality. This meant thinking about long-term goals, understanding the market, and making intentional decisions about growth. For those early in their journey, I recommend investing in yourself by learning the business side of things, even if you’re not an entrepreneur. Having a solid plan will help you stay on track and make informed decisions that align with your bigger purpose.

My advice for anyone starting out is to be patient and to trust the process. Surround yourself with people who support your growth, invest in your own personal development, and don’t be afraid to take risks. It’s in those moments of discomfort that you’ll find the most growth and opportunities.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

The number one challenge I’m currently facing is scaling my practice, Knew You Psychotherapy, while maintaining the quality of care and personal connection that has become the foundation of our success. As we grow and take on more clients, hire new therapists, and expand our services, it’s crucial for me to ensure that we don’t lose the authenticity and client-centered approach that defines our brand.

To overcome this challenge, I’m focusing on building a strong leadership team that aligns with the core values of our practice. This means hiring not just for skills but for emotional intelligence and a shared commitment to our mission of empowering individuals through healing. I’m also investing in more efficient systems and technology to streamline operations, such as developing a mental health app that will allow us to offer more support to clients outside of therapy sessions.

Additionally, I’m looking into partnering with a marketing team to help reach more people while staying true to our brand’s voice and authenticity. Growth can be challenging, but I’m committed to doing it thoughtfully and with intention, ensuring that we continue to provide high-quality, personalized care as we expand.
