We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Radhika Erving a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Radhika, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I wanted to have confidence and self-esteem in my late teen years but had no idea how to develop that for myself except the “fake it ’til you make it” strategy which did not work for – underneath the “faking it” I still lacked confidence. It was not until my early 20s that I decided to dedicate a year towards “self love.” At the time, I had no guidance and simply decided to engage in activities that I enjoyed with people I liked being around and think more about what self-love meant to me. At the end of the year exploring self love, I did build some confidence because I knew myself better and had been focusing on aspects of myself that I loved, authentically. Still, I had not really achieved the level of self-esteem and confidence that I desired but it was a start. In Pacific Beach, there is a special energy healer that I know named Simone, and she has taught me so much over the years about energy healing while helping me heal my inner-child along the way. Through her teachings, I came to realize that the heart of my issues with confidence and self-esteem came from a lack of self love. This was a bit deeper than the self love I had explored in my early 20s because it was about Self, or rather, Consciousness. In seeing myself as Consciousness, everyone around me as Consciousness, and being aware of my part in the unified field of Consciousness, confidence, self-esteem, forgiveness, Self-love… it all came naturally. In a nutshell, confidence and self-esteem came from awareness of my true Self and place in the universe.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My job is exciting because I get to help people reestablish connection to Self. When we are connected to Self / Consciousness, we always know what our body needs – we know when to go to bed, what foods to eat and when to eat them, we know how much water we need to drink, we know how to spend our time… We live in a society that often deviates from Self – we are full but we still eat the slice of chocolate cake, we are tired but we still stay up late watching a show, and the list goes on and on. When we make it a habit to ignore our Self, imbalances are created in the physiology and these imbalances want to be fed! So, then you have the imbalances talking in your head and Self, and it becomes harder and harder to distinguish which one is Self and which is the imbalance. Eventually, the imbalances can become chronic and serious if we carry on in this way.
As an Ayurvedic practitioner, I assess my client as an individual – their constitution, their digestive type, their imbalances, their resilience, their vitality, the level of toxin accumulation in their physiology (and where toxins have localized, if it has reached that stage), and the unique causative factors at play in their situation. I see the individual, and I assist the individual in removing imbalances by guiding them on diet and lifestyle with herbs to support their healing process and hands on treatments, if needed. Restoring balance to the physiology helps bring back that connection with Self, and if it is maintained, my clients don’t need to see me again, unless they wish to engage in seasonal detox / Panchakarma for prevention. Most of my clients, I will see them once, twice, maybe three times, and that’s it! They put forth the effort to follow their protocol, balance is restored to their physiology, and they regain a connection with Self which they now know to maintain.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My own connection to Consciousness has been instrumental in my journey. To those wishing to develop this connection, I would recommend getting energy healing / inner child healing sessions with Simone Diniz in Pacific Beach. Her email address is [email protected]. I would also recommend learning and practicing Transcendental Meditation – Gail Clessler can help you with this, and her phone number is (319) 217-8107. Naturally, I also recommend seeing an Ayurvedic practitioner because when we are in balance, it is easier to connect with Consciousness.
My knowledge of Ayurveda has, clearly, been crucial. Getting hands on experience is very helpful, studying at a school of Ayurveda is helpful, and reading as many of the ancient texts that you can will also be helpful. I will also tell you what I tell all of my students — the more you practice, the more naturally this information will come to you without need to reference your notes. Live Ayurveda – walk the walk, understand what is challenging about it and feel the benefits. This will make you a better practitioner.
Integrity is an important quality for an Ayurvedic practitioner to have. We do what we do because we love helping others — always remember your true purpose and follow that. The clients will come, the money will come, what you need will come. Operate from a place of abundance. Be honest, and give clients the treatments they need; don’t recommend any treatments that they don’t need! If you don’t feel equipped to help a client, refer them to a trusted colleague. Build your reputation on integrity. The results will speak for themselves.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Again, Simone Diniz has been a huge influence on me. She is an energy healer / inner-child healer in Pacific Beach and a very enlightened person. I so appreciate all the time she has taken to teach me what she knows and to guide me in my own spiritual Self healing journey. Ayurveda is a spiritual practice … it’s spirit-mind-body medicine. Health trickles down in just that way : when your spirit / connection to Consciousness is established and attended, your mind will be in a sattvic state (mode of goodness) which will enable you to make the right choices for your body, your relationships, your life, and this, naturally, leads to good bodily health. Ayurveda means “the science of life” and it is said to hold the secrets to immortality. Those secrets of immortality lie in that spiritual aspect of Ayurveda, your connection to Consciousness.
