Meet Allie Friedman Owner/Artist of House of Savage

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Allie Friedman Owner/Artist of House of Savage a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below

Allie Friedman, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Working in both corporate finance and real estate upon graduation from the University of Colorado Boulder has made me realize that world is not for me whatsoever. The rigid schedule, limited creativity, and working under superiors was never something that made me truly happy. I worked in corporate for a collective three and a half years and was never truly happy with my days or my future path. Because of this, I decided to quit and make something new happen for myself – House of Savage. I have always been artistic and creative, but never thought I could make my living from that solely. I put in 18 hour days to make this happen for myself, and I have loved every second of it because I feel that I’ve truly found my purpose. Art is effortless and I can make my living by being who I am as a person, and that is all I have ever wanted.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am the owner and artist at House of Savage. I am the vision behind each piece. I design everything and make it all come to life with my own two hands. I capture the photos for my website and manage the customer service aspect. It feels amazing to be the one in charge of my life and to have this creative freedom. House of Savage is where people come to find their dreams and bring them into their homes. This dopamine decor is what I live for, and creating all the pieces by hand is extremely fulfilling.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

If you put the work in and stay consistent in pursuing your dream, it will happen. Being hungry and determined while early in your journey is the only way that you will have the energy to keep moving forward, despite any setbacks. If you are not 100% passionate about what you are doing, there’s no way that you can truly put your all into everything that you do to build your business. Be true to yourself and stay honest – if you know that you will eventually lose interest or get burned out, then success may take a while to show up… don’t force anything and only do what feels good. Learning how to multitask is also a huge factor in my success – I can work on five projects at once and they will all come out great because I have mastered the art of multitasking by this point in my career.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

A book by Meg Jay – The Defining Decade – has played a huge role in my development. I read this book about a year in to my new career and everything changed for me. My mindset as 26 year old woman has completely transformed. It reinforced the idea that it’s a good thing to take risks while you’re young, and it shed light on how much that could benefit you in life if you put the work in now and build that foundation for future growth. Because of this, I turned my setbacks into stepping stones and understood that I will learn more from my mistakes than I ever would with just gliding through life. Whenever I would have a “bad” day, I would think about everything I learned from it all so that I could use those tools to become stronger.
