Meet Fihmiya Hamdan

We were lucky to catch up with Fihmiya Hamdan recently and have shared our conversation below.

Fihmiya, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My mom has been a great source of inspiration in my life. She has always been my rock and one of the strongest people I know. Her strength, boldness, and ability to overcome challenges have shaped who I am today. Anytime I worried, even the slightest bit, she’d remind me, “You’ll be okay, no need to worry,” and those words would echo in my mind, giving me the confidence to push through.

When I made major life changes, like switching careers or trying something new, I knew there would be bumps along the way, but I was ready for them. The doubts and ‘what ifs’ would fade, replaced by her voice telling me, “You can do this.” It would remind me that quitting on myself was and is never an option. The best bet I can make is the one I put on myself.

Even when others didn’t support my decisions or disagreed with the direction I was going, my mom always stood by me, no matter what. Her support and strength are what I carry with me at all times. She is a constant reminder that no matter what life throws my way, I can handle it. Even though it gets uncomfortable at times, especially when stepping out of my comfort zone, I know I’ll get through it.

Every effort taken is a step forward. To discover our true potential.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a whole lot of interesting things, like layers of an onion—there’s always something new to discover. Each layer reveals a chapter of my life. From baking and traveling to outdoor adventures, sports, being a foodie, and learning new tech tools, these are just a few of the things that light me up.

Professionally, I’m a Community Manager and Social Impact Advisor, passionate about fostering inclusive communities and driving positive change. I focus on cultivating authentic connections and meaningful conversations that deepen relationships and embed core values into every initiative.

My mission is to inspire and empower communities, ensuring a lasting impact that resonates with every individual. Through sustained engagement, my vision is to ignite connections and anchor values at the heart of mission-driven organizations.

Because of the work I do, I’ve been mentored to lead with a trauma-informed approach at Integrate, a network of human care providers I collaborate with. I’m excited to share my insights on what community management through a trauma-informed lens looks like and how it can make a meaningful impact. I’m really looking forward to presenting this perspective!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I believe the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are:

Resilience: My ability to bounce back from setbacks and adapt to change has been crucial. It allowed me to face challenges head-on, knowing that each obstacle was an opportunity for growth.

Empathy: Understanding and connecting with others on a deeper level has enriched my relationships, both personally and professionally. This skill has been vital in my role as a Community Manager, helping me build authentic connections and foster inclusive environments.

Continuous Learning: A commitment to lifelong learning has fueled my growth. By embracing new experiences, technologies, and perspectives, I’ve been able to adapt to the evolving needs of the communities I serve and drive meaningful change.

The advice I would give to others is to give yourself grace along this journey of life. Challenges are inevitable; they will happen. What truly matters is how we approach and respond to them. Be open to trying new things and give yourself permission to explore. You might be surprised at what you can achieve and where it can lead you. Never lose hope, never lose faith, and, most importantly, never give up on yourself.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Yes, I’m actively seeking partnerships and collaborations! I’m looking to connect with visionary leaders, passionate individuals, and mission-driven organizations that are eager to amplify their impact and align their values with actionable outcomes. If you are a people-centric leader who values building relationships with your customers and is passionate about community, I want to hear from you!
