Meet Liz Thompson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Liz Thompson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Liz, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I think for a lot of women, self-confidence tends to revolve around appearance. There’s always this pressure to look a certain way, and it can be exhausting. For me, the biggest challenge wasn’t about how others saw me at work but just learning to like myself for who I am. At some point, I realized that no one is paying as much attention to me as I thought they were, and that was incredibly freeing. That’s when I came up with my personal mantra: ‘If you act confident, people will just think you’re eccentric, instead of a disaster.’ It’s kind of silly, but it keeps me from spiraling into self-doubt. Instead of overthinking every little thing, I just go with it. Maintaining forward momentum in life is hard if you don’t have confidence in yourself. For me, liking who I am—whether it’s how I look or how I show up in the world—has been a game-changer. I’ve found that when I feel good about myself, everything else falls into place. I’m able to handle challenges, keep moving forward, and not get stuck in that constant cycle of self-doubt.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Liz Thompson, and I work as an Independent Health Insurance Agent. My main focus is helping individuals understand their health insurance options and find plans that work for them. What excites me most about my job is the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives. Finding health insurance can be a confusing process, and I love being the person who helps them navigate it.

I also enjoy building strong relationships with my clients. When they come back to share how I’ve helped them or refer their friends and family to me, it really makes my day. It feels great to know they trust me to guide them through something that can be really overwhelming.

Right now, I’m working on expanding my reach so I can assist even more people. I’m also enhancing my online resources to provide better information and support. My goal is to make health insurance understandable and accessible for everyone.

If you’re curious about health insurance or want to chat about your options, I’d love to hear from you!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, communication skills, and a strong desire to learn.

1. Resilience: Navigating the world of health insurance can be tough, and there have been plenty of challenges along the way. Building resilience has allowed me to push through tough situations and keep moving forward. My advice for others is to embrace setbacks as opportunities to grow. Each challenge can teach you something valuable if you’re open to learning from it.

2. Communication Skills: Being able to explain complex insurance concepts in a simple way has been essential. My advice here is to practice active listening and always try to understand where the other person is coming from. Tailor your message to their needs and use clear, relatable language. This makes a huge difference in how you connect with others.

3. Desire to Learn: The health insurance landscape is always changing, and I’ve found that staying curious and open to new information is key. I recommend seeking out opportunities for learning, whether through courses, networking, or simply asking questions. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and challenge you to grow.

For anyone starting out, remember that it’s okay to be a beginner. Embrace the journey and be patient with yourself. Each step you take is part of building your skills and confidence!

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

When it comes to overcoming challenges and developing essential skills, I can’t say enough about my boss and mentor, Justine Bell. She’s like the professional big sister I never knew I needed. Justine took me under her wing and has been instrumental in teaching me the ropes in this industry.

What I appreciate most about her is that she genuinely believes in me and is always looking to lift everyone up around her. I often joke that I’m happily riding her coattails into the sunset because she built this business from the ground up, and we’re still reaping the benefits of her hard work and the referral network she established over 7+ years ago.

I know I can always turn to Justine for guidance on anything “adulting” related, and I’m incredibly grateful to have her support. Her mentorship has been a game changer for me, and I truly value everything she’s done to help me grow.
