Meet Marcine M. Moore

We were lucky to catch up with Marcine M. Moore recently and have shared our conversation below.

Marcine M., thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I draw my resilience from life experiences. During my childhood, I was surrounded by strong women, particularly my mother and grandmother. Watching them navigate life made me strong. When I faced my own challenges in adulthood, I could reflect on the lessons I learned from them. One of the most challenging eras of my life was navigating through a divorce.

As I navigated through my divorce, it became a journey of self-discovery. I faced hard questions: Why did my marriage fail? Was it me? Was it him? Could either of us have done something differently? I turned to poetry as therapy. Poetry helped me work through these difficult questions, heal, grow, and forgive both myself and him. After my divorce, I discovered an inner phoenix that gave rise to a new version of myself. This resilience was on a different level—a true bounce back.

This resilience also extends into my work and social life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

In 2023, I published my best-selling poetry book, “Phoenix Heart.” In the spring of 2024, it won an international book award. The follow-up in the Phoenix series, “Reflections Rising,” also hit the best-sellers list on Barnes & Noble. Currently, I am working on a romance mystery novel, “Gemini Echoes,” set to release in late fall of 2024. This romance mystery centers around identical twin sisters, Haviland and Hadassah Cloud, where their dualities collide, secrets unravel, and choices of the heart are made. I am excited for its release in fall 2024.

Additionally, I am venturing into public speaking and will be hosting local seminars for upcoming writers. These seminars will focus on the steps to write and succeed in book launches and advertising. I will also be starting my first writers’ retreat in the summer of 2025 in Dallas, TX and Broken Bow, Oklahoma. I am thrilled to offer this opportunity to upcoming authors.

I currently perform at various open mic events around the DFW Area. In November I will be performing at the Waco Cultural Arts Word Fest 15-17,2024 for 20th anniversary. My poem Eclipsed Radiance was accepted for publication in the 2024 Waco Word Fest Anthology. I had an awesome 2023 and 2024 I am looking forward to what 2025 will bring.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting back resilience was a main quality to help me on my journey. My ability to bounce back from challenges, such as my divorce, and channel those experiences into poetry and writing has been crucial. This resilience has not only helped me grow personally but also allowed me to connect deeply with your readers. Creativity and Self-Expression was another skill- turning emotions and experiences into compelling poetry and stories, like “Phoenix Heart” and “Reflections Rising,” has been a significant part of my success. This creativity has enabled me to craft narratives that resonate with others and stand out in the literary world. Last Community Engagement and Leadership has helped me move into public speaking and hosting seminars for upcoming writers shows this helps my commitment to giving back and supporting others. This leadership and willingness to share my knowledge has likely opened new opportunities and strengthened my presence in the writing community.

For those early in their writing journey, here are some practical steps to develop and improve the key qualities and skills.
Building resilience by setting small goals: Break down your writing projects into manageable tasks. Celebrate small victories to keep yourself motivated. Learn from Setbacks: View rejections and critiques as opportunities to learn and grow. Each setback is a step towards improvement.

Engaging with the Community join Writing Groups: Participate in local or online writing groups to share your work and receive feedback. Attend Workshops and Seminars: Learn from experienced authors and industry professionals. These events can provide valuable insights and networking opportunities.

Read actively analyze the structure, style, and techniques used in books you enjoy. Take notes on what works well and why.
Practice regularly — Write regularly, even if it’s just for a few minutes each day. Consistent practice helps you refine your skills over time.

Last keep a positive mindset and remind yourself why you started writing. Passion and perseverance will carry you through tough times.
Remember, every writer’s journey is unique. Embrace your path, stay curious, and keep learning

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to nurture my love for reading. They would whisk me away to the bookstore, where I’d lose myself among the shelves, and they’d always let me pick out a new adventure. Thanks to their encouragement, my childhood was a treasure trove of stories. My imagination and passion for writing blossomed as I devoured books like **”The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”** by C.S. Lewis, **”A Wrinkle in Time”** by Madeleine L’Engle, and countless **Nancy Drew Mysteries**. I could go on and on about the magical worlds that opened up to me throughout my childhood! 📚✨
