We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mary Tave-ihenacho a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mary, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding one’s purpose can seem complicated, but it is very simple. What is the one thing you would do whether you received payment or not? What is that one thing that you naturally gravitate to without anyone asking? The answer to these questions will lead you to your purpose. A lot of times, we overlook our purpose because we think our purpose is on an extravagant level. We think our purpose has to be big and stage-worthy. If we think this, our purpose is about us, not others, and glorifying God.
When I took the time to inventory the things I did for free, I found my purpose. I had been walking in my purpose for a long time but never saw it that way. My love for ministry administration and organization is something I did all the time and for free. Yes, I worked in the corporate Information Technology arena. I guarantee you that if they stopped paying me, I would have left. After finishing my 9-5, I looked forward to doing Ministry Administration. Did I mention I did it for free?
After leaving Corporate America, I am enjoying my purpose even more. I speak at conferences, consult with churches and ministries, and so much more. People say, “Do what you love, and the money will come.” This is true.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the founder and visionary of Audacity Presents, a faith-based ministry founded in 2020 designed for Christians to live an audacious life for Christ. Our mission is to Teach, Encourage, and Disciple. It is based on Philippians 1:21, where the Apostle Paul’s current circumstance was a win/win. Paul wrote, For me, to live is Christ, to die is gain.”
The ministry produces a weekly Podcast across all platforms and a weekly blog, where we encourage listeners and readers to have the Audacity to take risks and be bold for Christ. Occasionally, we have an opportunity to speak or host women’s conferences in the DFW area. It is always a joy to connect with people in person.
The online ministry, with its global reach, allows us to touch lives in places we could not physically go. This ministry gives us a broader reach to countries such as Sweden, Ireland, Ukraine, Nigeria, and others, inspiring a sense of unity and shared purpose across borders.
As the founder of Audacity Presents, I have also published various children’s books called Eternal Children’s Collective. This collection of books establishes a biblical foundation for our children and encourages them to find their place in our current world. All books are available on Amazon.
Starting a business can be challenging, but when I discovered my purpose, leading a ministry came easy. People often make excuses for not pursuing that great idea they have been walking around with for years. My advice is to do it and learn as you go, just as I did and continue to in my journey with Audacity Presents.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I have learned and continue to learn so much on this journey. Most importantly, just because you haven’t done it doesn’t mean you can’t. You won’t know until you try. Don’t put limits on yourself.
Discovering your purpose is free. God will provide for what He has called you to do, whether through finances, skills, or people.
Don’t get discouraged because it doesn’t turn out like you imagined. We often quit because the path was not as we had planned. Trust me, God has the master plan.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I am currently pursuing my Doctorate Degree. Anyone who has been on this journey knows the commitment, the time, and the challenges that come with this pursuit. I ran across a video that said, If you focus on the obstacles, you may never reach your goal, but if you focus on your goal, you can overcome your obstacles. This has helped me to make it to the final classes of this program. It all depends on how you view the challenge.
