We were lucky to catch up with Shamond Powell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shamond, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Being my true self! It’s so hard nowadays to be yourself authentic self! Because of social media we feel like we have to be bigger and better at everything we do like a competition. I honestly feel like it took me a while to get comfortable and used to doing content, when I first started I was on a roll of creating so many episodes and coming up with so many different ideas and after I stopped I felt like I didn’t do anything good , it took strangers who I was working with to give my flowers to feel like I’m doing something right!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The most exciting part is meeting new people and exploring new environments! Since I started my own podcast last year in March I truly wanted this to be more of a shedding light and giving artists and others their flowers! Louisville has a bad reputation right now and I want to help change that narrative, it’s really challenging being African American and not being but in a specific category! I want to be able to write our own stories and spread positivity and love to everyone I come across.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The 3 skills needed for this is definitely Confidence, Organization, Personality! These 3 truly build who you are and sets you apart from others too! I feel like you need your own identity with anything you do! I wanted people to get a different perspective of me being a content creator, I’ve always been truly influenced by Music, art and dance! These 3 things do play a huge roll to into my creative way of thinking and trying to do more artistic things like photoshoot and fashion related stuff
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes I’m actually looking for more people outside of Louisville to collaborate with! Like artists, fashion designers, other content creators and more , I want to be able to share and create and learn from others! I think it’s so important to collaborate with different people all over, I want to collaborate with passionate, kind and bold individuals
