Meet Geetha Ravula

We recently connected with Geetha Ravula and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Geetha, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

My optimism comes from observing and paying attention to life, people and personalities from Hindu Scriptures like Ramayan, Mahabharath, Bhagavad Githa and Bhagavatham. These stories taught me how with acceptance, gratitude, empathy, resilience and persistence people turned adverse situations into opportunities, There is nothing to lose in life, when we understand this, we will always have an optimistic view of life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Including my IT job, I volunteer to host online yoga, meditation and Bhagavad Githa sessions regularly for kids and adults. Members who took these sessions share that they have been life transforming. To read some of their experiences you can visit our website https://diyameditation.com/testimonials/. They experience clarity of thought, peace, better sleep, better relationships, can manifest what’s significant to them in their life and more. Anyone from any lifestyle can attend these sessions, some of them who attend are from stressful lifestyles like Doctors, VPs, Managers, working Mothers with kids, Students and IT engineers.

I host Voice of Sanatan Hinduism Radio show on 98.7 FM every Sunday from12 to 1 PM CST, which is an authentic radio show on Hinduism also broadcasted on Facebook. I share valuable stories from enlightened beings and from Hindu scriptures, that guide us to deal with difficult situations. As a part of our non-profit organization Ashirwad A Blessing, myself along with Ashirwad family of volunteers are involved in providing meals to shelters and homeless every quarter and host 1000 Diwali meals in the month of October which is Hindu Heritage month every year to the needy. We host the Fort Bend Diwali event in collaboration with the Fort Bend County Judge’s office, which is a celebration of Hindu festival of Lights, an Indian Cultural Extravaganza, this year we have MC Yogi performing Live on Oct 20th. What I like about all these activities is selfless service and sharing our little joys with everyone and less privileged people. In the expectation and profit driven world, these activities bring an in-depth understanding of life, positivity, peace, contentment and joy to the soul. As these lessons brought me immense joy, I love sharing the same with everyone. Life is a celebration; I believe it should be organic and joyful. I strive for all my activities to reflect joy, care and spiritual ascension.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

If I have to pick 3 progressive qualities that would be Gratitude, Perseverance and Introspection. Gratitude is a great lens that can flip all that looks negative in challenging situations to contentment and fulfilling. Perseverance puts you back on track and doesn’t let you quit, there’s no equal to it. It’s very easy to get carried away in this world, through introspection one can consistently re-look at one’s core values and keep correcting to become our best version. Without introspection one becomes stagnant, obsolete, closed minded and growth is not possible.

When it comes to skills, adapting quickly to change and living the present moment to your best is the skill that has been very helpful and encouraging to me. Enjoying what you do without expecting too much in return is another skill I would throw in. Life is not a business and bunch of transactions; we can truly enjoy our life when we do things without anticipating anything in return. This is true freedom. I have been asked many times if I like my work. Some people suggested that we should do what we like. But most of the times in life we might not have the luxury to do what we like, so instead of expressing disappointment over what we don’t like why not enjoy what we do. Both likes and dislikes come from mind. Makes sense?

I would suggest everyone to know self, when you understand yourself rest of the life becomes effortlessly happy. Self as in consciousness, our life energy that is different than our body, senses, mind, matter. There might be challenges in our life but when we understand self, we can quickly bounce, and we will transmute difficulties into peace. Some tools like deep breathing exercises, meditation, devotion and constant study of self or scriptures can help us experience self (when practiced).

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

If I have to choose a physical book, it will be Bhagavad Githa, holy book for Hindus but there is no book that is equal to OneSelf. When we observe how our mind, body, senses respond to different situations around us, our own self becomes an institution to understand this life. Paying attention to OneSelf teaches us real-time more than a book does.
