We were lucky to catch up with Carla Daniela recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Carla, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethics, passion and professionalism come from my family upbringing of strong working values and principles in the workplace, and my passion in fashion and knowledge from graduating in fashion and textile design.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am Carla Daniela, the owner and main tailor of Tailor Love the award-winning atelier in Hillcrest, San Diego. I was born and raised in Azores, Terceira Island, Portugal. I have over 20 years of experience and passion modifying garments based on my clients’ fashion specifications and needs. At Tailor Love we specialize in a variety of tailoring techniques, and we have experience in redesigning vintage wedding dresses, tailoring, and working on luxury wedding brands.
At Tailor Love we listen to our brides’ visions to tailor their existing wedding dresses to make them look and feel beautiful. I believe brides decide to trust and engage with Tailor Love based on our high customer service standards, experience, awards and recognitions, and Happy Brides positive reviews on Google, Yelp, Wedding Wire and The Knot. We are immensely proud to have been awarded and recognized by her Happy Brides, the business industry and community with the following awards and recognitions:
• San Diego Magazine’s 2023 Pioneer of Trade + Craft of the Year
• Style & Apparel Awards 2023 as the Best Clothing Tailoring and Sewing Business in San Diego by LUXLIFE Magazine.
• Tailor Love Day Proclamation from Todd Gloria – Mayor of San Diego for Tailor Love Day – November 1st.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I believe to succeed you need passion, experience, discipline, and the willingness to evolve and make changes in the wedding industry as needed. If you want to achieve or accomplish anything of value or meaning in your business life then you need to be disciplined and consistent and stay in your path, letting your brides around you rely on you and know what to expect from you– Happy brides. You must know your bride’s needs, your business and craft.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me, was showing me work ethics and giving me the freedom to choose my career. They always promoted and encouraged me to make choices in life, to follow my dreams and passion by giving me their support. At an early age I wanted to make people look and feel beautiful by designing beautiful clothes, so they encourage me and support me to follow my dream in fashion and textile design.
