Meet Sandra Hall

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sandra Hall a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandra, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

Being a women in a basically white guys world of finance has changed over the years. When I first became a financial advisor (30 years ago) I had to laugh at the sexist jokes to be “one of the guys”. I had to dress a a little nicer so as not to be confused with the admin. And I often had to respond to “who do you work for?”

Today I don’t have to laugh at the jokes and in fact you do not hear them as often. I’m over 60 – and with that brings the ability to wear whatever I want. I still often get asked “who do you work for”!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am the owner of Faith Financial Advisors, a financial planning and investment management firm. We have been continuously in business since the early 90’s. Which now sounds like a long time ago. Our tag line is to “Live Life Generously!” We want our clients to steward their resources in a way that allows them to be generous in those areas that they are passionate about. We always put our integrity before our security – putting our clients needs above all else. We also donate over 15% or our gross revenue to non-profits, modeling generosity.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Believing in myself, never giving up, and always putting the clients needs first.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My mother encouraged me to get an education, to be independent and to learn how to provide for myself. She did this by example. She was a single mom back in the 60’s, finished her education at night school while raising a child on her own, and she became a manager at a major corporation in Cincinnati, Ohio, at a time when women seldom attained that position.
