We recently connected with Marla Moonshine and have shared our conversation below.
Marla, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
When I was three, I’d sit in my mom’s old car, still strapped into a car seat, listening to the music on the radio. I would sing the songs, matching pitch and volume, hitting the notes with surprising accuracy. This is my earliest memory of singing-my mom turned down the volume just to hear me I could tell she was listening. Even at that age, I knew she was impressed—not just by my singing but by the fact that I knew all the lyrics. A few months later, at a family party, I went from table to table, singing and dancing in my ruffled dress. Guests gave me coins and dollar bills. I didn’t understand why, I was just happy to make them smile and loved the attention. My mom made me return the money, which, of course, left me a little disappointed—ha!
When I was seven, I was in public school, where we had recess for about 30 minutes everyday. Some girls in my class organized a talent show where we all showcased our skills. After a few days of planning, it was show time. We sat on the grass in the baseball field and took turns standing up and showing our talents. When it was my turn, I sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” All the girls were in awe, and in that moment, I knew my voice was my gift—I was meant to entertain and stir emotions in others. By eight, I was in acting school; at nine, I landed a local commercial; and by ten and eleven, I was singing solos in school musicals. By sixth grade, I knew I wanted to be either a pop star or an actress.
In high school, I spent three years in the choir had solo parts and had a lead role in our musical my senior year. Around this time, I also developed a passion for tarot, people, and fashion. Though performing was my greatest love, my desire to serve others and emotional support people was equally strong. By 18, I knew my purpose was tied to arts, entertainment and communication. Whether I was singing, acting, or reading tarot cards, my voice became a tool to connect, entertain, and help others. Tarot gave me another way to use my voice, blending entertainment with service—just like music.
I believe your purpose has likely been with you since childhood. It’s about recognizing what you love and digging deeper—understanding why you love it and how it can serve others.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a tarot reader, fashion designer, singer, and entertainer. Over the past three years, I’ve primarily channeled my creativity through tarot. What sets me apart as a reader is my deep empathy and my firsthand knowledge of what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a reading. I have spent a great deal of time as a consumer in the tarot world, I understand what people are looking for. They want to feel uplifted, more confident, and enlightened after a reading. Even when the message is challenging or something they may not want to hear, it should bring clarity and hope. Not everyone has the ability to deliver that balance, but I know my approach is both healing and enjoyable!
I’ve also come to realize how intuitive I am. I don’t often advertise my psychic abilities, but I have totally predicted many situations with accuracy, even down to specific timings.
Currently I would say, my brand has an air of mystery—it’s raw, unpolished, and surprisingly well-received. Maybe people like its authenticity, compared to the overly curated aesthetics of the digital age. Maybe this unintentional “unbranding” makes me relatable to many. But as both my brand and I continue to evolve, I’m preparing for a strong return to the public eye. After maintaining a low profile and embracing a private life for the past four years, I’m gearing up for a significant reappearance—so stay tuned.
In addition to tarot, I’m working on a new collection that includes clothing, accessories, and even tarot card decks I’ve designed myself. It’s been a long creative process, but I’m excited to launch the collection in 2025. Eventually, I will also bring music and singing into the brand. But for now it’s just one thing at a time.
And of course if you would like a tarot reading, please reach out to me through email and we could set that up for you! MarlaMoonshineMail@gmail.com
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most important things to understand when following your path are simple, yet timeless:
What service are you offering to the world?
What can you do all day without ever getting tired?
And if everyone thought you were crazy for dreaming it, would it even matter? Because deep down, it’s simply part of who you are.
These three guiding principles can lead anyone toward their purpose. Adding value to others, doing something you’d gladly do for free because it brings you joy—that’s the foundation of a fulfilling life. And if no one else believed in your dream, it wouldn’t shake you, because it’s not about them; it’s about what flows naturally within you.
If anyone is struggling to find your passion, look for those moments when time slips away. Is it when you’re lost in music, sketching on paper, or simply enjoying time with friends? When you find yourself so absorbed that hours pass like minutes, that’s flow—and your purpose might be hidden in those fleeting moments.
What seems effortless is exactly where you’re meant to be.
Sometimes we know our passions but life can also get in the way. People have jobs, relationships, children, money situations and all sorts of things that can pull us away from our path. But if you focus and at least spend 15 mins a day working on your skills, the universe will bring you towards your destiny.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The truth is t’s not just one person—it’s everyone I’ve encountered. My family, friends, and even acquaintances have all contributed to my success in one way or another.
My mother, for example, is extroverted and entertaining. She taught me how to be confident and expressive. My father’s sharp wit and sense of humor gave me the ability to be funny and quick-thinking. My sister, teaching me to think about others instead of only thinking about myself. My old best friend, a fashion designer, opened my eyes to fashion when I turned 18. And a long-term relationship with a musician, introduced me to all types of music helping me develop a deeper appreciation of it.
Each friendship I’ve had has left a lasting impact, inspiring me at different stages of my life. Even from old coworkers and brief encounters with others. When it comes to tarot, the biggest influence has been Gina, who has known me since I was 14. She’s an old school tarot reader. She’s in her late 70s now, but her wisdom and guidance have been so valuable in helping me master the art of tarot reading.
The people I have met in my life are my greatest teachers. I wish I could say just one person but as of right now everyone has made a difference. Everyone I’ve met has offered something—whether it was helping me overcome difficulties, saying something that stuck with me forever, or introducing me to a skill that I later became passionate about. It’s these interactions, small and large, that have helped me become who I am as an artist and entertainer. Life’s lessons often come from the people we surround ourselves with, and I’ve been fortunate enough to learn from so many. If you pay attention, people come into your life to change you, shape you, or put you onto something.
