Meet Evelyn Baez Nguyen

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Evelyn Baez Nguyen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Evelyn, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?

Managing stress is crucial for both mental and physical well-being, and I learned this firsthand during a particularly challenging time in my life. These past 5 years in Real Estate I’ve learned to manage burnout in a way I would have never imagined. Being raised in a Latino household, we never emphasized on how bad stress is to our mental health, let alone talk about the emotion itself. Since I started my self healing journey, I’ve been able to prioritize my self more than ever leading to avoid burnout.
At first, I thought I could handle it all—after all, I was busy and productive. But slowly, I started to notice something different with my overall health. I started experiencing anxiety, and even physical symptoms like abnormal heart rhythm and itchiness from stress.
One day, after a particularly overwhelming week, I found myself snapping at the hospital for 2 nights and 3 days. It was a wake-up call. I realized that my stress wasn’t just affecting me; it was impacting my relationships and overall happiness. I thought I was happy and everything was perfect, but I’ve come to realize I was overworking myself. Since 2022, I began prioritizing my mental health more than work. I’m still driven and ambitious, I just don’t overwork myself to the point where I am crying of stress.

As I committed to these changes, I noticed a significant shift. I became more resilient, my relationships improved, and I even found more joy in my daily activities. Managing burnout not only helped me regain my balance, but it also taught me the importance of self-care and being present in the moment. A few things I like to add to my monthly self care routine are, Yoga, Meditation, Breathwork, and Kundalini Activation.

Now, I see stress management not just as a tool for coping, but as an essential part of living a fulfilling life. It’s about finding harmony and ensuring that I’m not just surviving, but truly thriving in all aspects of my life. I’ve had so much peace ever since this turning point.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I began my career in Commercial Real Estate right after college. I studied Communications and Business marketing at California State University of Dominguez Hills. I began my career at Lyon Stahl Investment Real Estate in El Segundo, California. After 5 years in the industry, I have become an expert in my field, marketing, pricing and 1031 exchanges. I have always been passionate about who I am and where my family comes from. As first generation, I’ve always felt a strong connection to my Latino roots, and as a real estate agent, I found my passion in helping my community build generational wealth.

I find my career to be one of a kind in my community because there are not enough Latino Commercial Real Estate Brokers aiming to educate the Latino Community on how to purchase investments, let alone complete a successful 1031 Exchange.
I believe in our community’s potential. Together, we can break barriers and create wealth that lasts for generations.

Here’s exactly what I do, I reach out to Landlords and offer them a free valuation or market analysis on their current assets. I write down all information that is needed to complete a broker opinion of value. A few questions I ask are for their current rent roll, utility bills, insurance bill, maintenance, have they done any repairs to the property, are there any issues with the property, and last but not least, why would they consider selling? These simple questions allows me put together a property analysis based on todays current market. A few things I’ll consider when I’m analyzing a property is todays current interest rate, current sales comps, and what’s sitting on the market.

As I’m balancing my life & career, I still manage to give back to the community. Since 2023, I’ve been serving as sponsorship director for the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals in Los Angeles. I have made the commitment to give back by being involved in leadership. I have learned many valuable skills by simply being around other successful Latino Entrepreneurs.

Last but not least, I am a huge advocate for women empowerment causes. This past year I was able to host my very first all Women’s Commercial Real Estate event in Downtown Los Angeles and will continue to host one every year. My next event will be held in January 2024. Please reach out to me directly since space is very limited! My goal is to continue spreading awareness in Commercial Real Estate for women who feel it’s hard to break in. My events will allow more women to connect in all types of industries not just Commercial Real Estate.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back at the end of my senior year in college, I will admit that attending random networking events helped me become more open minded to opportunities. I remember attending my first networking event in Marina Del Rey and meeting people in Commercial Real Estate, never did I imagine ending up in this career but it was the first time I was exposed to the people in this field. Being open minded and being a proactive action-taker has been instrumental in my growth in commercial real estate. By consistently setting clear goals and remaining loyal to them, I’ve built a strong foundation for success. This dedication has enabled me to tackle challenges head-on, whether it’s closing deals or navigating complex negotiations.

Additionally, my ability to empathize with clients and colleagues has strengthened my relationships. Understanding their needs and perspectives fosters trust and collaboration, allowing me to provide creative solutions. Together, these qualities have not only enhanced my professional skills but also deepened my commitment to serving my community, paving the way for a fulfilling and successful career in commercial real estate.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

“The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy, has been a pivotal influence on my success, teaching me the power of small, consistent actions over time. Its core message about making incremental changes resonated with me, encouraging me to set clear goals and track my progress. By focusing on daily habits and decisions, I learned that even minor improvements can lead to significant results. This mindset shift has not only enhanced my productivity but also strengthened my resilience in the face of challenges, ultimately driving me toward long-term success in my personal and professional life.
