Meet Ivy Karlinsky

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ivy Karlinsky a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ivy , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I was not a kid who grew up knowing exactly what they wanted to do in life until I found myself as an adult in an unfulfilling job and knew I couldn’t do that for the rest of my life. I call it my 1/4 life crisis and I thought long and hard about what I found interesting, what could I get up every day and learn and talk about until the end of time. I realized that I had always had an interest in food, nutrition and movement. I started small with a recipe blog, and then – took a huge leap and quit my job and went back to school for Nutrition & Exercise Science. I figured, if I could even just learn more for myself, and maybe help one person, I would be happy. Years later, after working with college athletes, in gyms, in clinical settings, and now becoming a mom, I realized that the group of people I wanted to work with most were others moms. I know the struggle of prioritizing your own wellness in the midst of the chaos of motherhood and so being able to help other moms prioritize their own wellbeing through holistic nutrition, intentional movement, stress relief & mindset shifts, I would fully be in my purpose.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As a Postpartum Nutritionist, Personal Trainer & mom, I combine my professional expertise with a compassionate and realistic approach. I’ve not only reclaimed my own well-being but also dedicated myself to empowering fellow moms. I know the struggle of balancing motherhood while still trying to make sure you put on your freaking air mask. You can’t show up for your family, friends, or partner unless you care for yourself.

My coaching focuses on 5 pillars: Whole Foods, Movement, Sleep, Stress Management & Mindset. I coach moms through both group & one-on-one programs so they can have the energy to keep up with the demands of motherhood, easily prepare nourishing foods for themselves, and their families, drop the guilt around prioritizing their wellness, show up as a patient and regulated presence in their families, stop scrolling and create better bedtime and sleep practices, feel confident in their bodies and drop the last 10-15lbs of pregnancy weight gain.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I don’t believe nutrition & physical activity can be separated from each other, which is why I chose an educational program that focused on both. You cannot achieve complete wellness when you neglect either of these areas so I think that anyone looking to improve their wellness has to focus on both.

Additionally, for moms, I think the biggest missing piece in their journey that no one else is talking about is the mindset shift. Moms are perpetually burdened with a heavy mental load and feel guilty about taking any time for themselves and it doesn’t serve them or anyone else. I coach my clients to let go of that need to be the perfect mom or feel bad about taking time for themselves because it improves every area of their lives.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed personally with trying to prioritize my wellness, I try to break it down into small pieces and be gentle with myself. I identify what I CAN do and let go of what I cannot control, and the biggest shift is to remember that something is always, always better than nothing. I think we get caught in a trap of feeling paralyzed by the amount of things to do, or feeling like if we don’t have a full hour for a workout or the ability to prep a ton of food we just give up and don’t do anything. Picking one small thing to do is always going to make me feel better.
