Meet Sade Beaulieu

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sade Beaulieu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sade , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Any room I walk in, I show up with my confidence and expertise unfiltered and unbothered only walking in my truth. Whether I am the only one in the room that looks like me its through my faith in God that I am effective and successful. My drive, focus, my honed skills, and my authenticity is revealed through my work and is why I can be the only one in the room that looks like me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Overcome Counseling offers a comprehensive range of integrated, evidence-based mental health care therapy to individuals, virtually throughout Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. We liaise with Medical Professionals, Schools, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Insurance Companies to bring you the best possible care. In addition, to servicing individual clients (i.e., adolescents, and adults), we also offer Clinical Supervision, and Consulting Services.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back the three most impactful qualities in my journey were believing in myself, honing in on my sense of self and my faith in God. Believing in myself started with setting the bar for me realizing that it’s me and only me who is the driver of my own success. It’s about how I perceive myself, my identity, including my personality traits, abilities, interest, and values. When I can mirror that it reflects on how I judge myself. Having a strong sense of self meant that I had to have a well-developed self-image (i.e., knowing who I am and what I stand for). My faith in God helped me to keep going when I felt like everything was closing in around me. Allowing myself to trust in him, letting him lead me instead of pulling in the other direction when the vision was not yet made clear to me is what has helped shaped me into the woman I am today.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

During times when I feel overwhelmed, I usually take a dive into my self-care regimen. Self-care for me encompasses practices of physical, mental, and emotional health. Three of my top self-care practices are: Mindfulness meditation where I allow myself to focus my attention on the present moment without judgment which brings me feelings of calmness and inner peace. Setting boundaries is another one for me as it allows me to recognize my limits and communicate them assertively with others. Seeking support is the most significant one as this allows me to reach out for support when needed. Understanding that I don’t have to do this alone, and seeking support is a sign of strength, and not a weakness. The capability of having someone who listens and validates your feelings can provide you with immense relief and perspective during difficult times.

Any advice or strategies you ask. I would say we find ourselves constantly juggling work, family, social commitments, and various responsibilities, leaving little time and energy for self-care. So, let’s embrace the power of self-care and embark on a journey of self-love, self-discovery, and self-empowerment. As you incorporate self-care into your daily life here are some next steps to consider: Create Your Self-Care Plan, Commit to Consistency, Practice Self-Compassion, Seek Support and Accountability, and Stay Open to Growth. Remember, self-care is not a luxury reserved for a select few; it’s a fundamental necessity for living a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life.
