Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mary Kay (mk) Campbell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mary Kay (MK), so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
For more than a decade, I knew I was called to be an inspirational speaker and trainer. I am a super connector and love to hear others’ stories. Sharing these and my own in an impactful manner is my jam. However, I was a single mom and the life of an entrepreneur wasn’t in my cards.
Or so I thought. Then on February 5, 2021, I was in a bad car accident that left me with a traumatic brain injury or as I like to say, a “brain vacation.”
I sat in the ambulance and knew without a doubt that I needed to follow my calling, to help others “Stop Auditing Life: Reclaim Your MOXIE!” I began Queens of Moxie and haven’t looked back. I love helping others find their joy, purpose and community through my roadmap to reclaim their MOXIE.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a passionate speaker, trainer and moderator. I love to help individuals reclaim their Moxie – an empowering framework to find joy, purpose and community.
For me, moxie is more than a concept; it is a way of life and I help others to tap into their innate strengths and live authentically. All of this is rooted in my personal journey of overcoming significant obstacles, including living with an invisible disability. My speeches and training programs include:
Keynote Speech:
Stop Auditing Life: Reclaim Your Moxie
Training Programs:
A Deep Dive Into Reclaiming Your Moxie
Invisible Disabilities: Show You CARE
Wallflower to Connector: Networking 101
Public Speaking for All
I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my speaking engagements, drawing on my background as a TEDx speaker, former college lecturer of public speaking and public information officer, plus more than 25 years of strategic marketing and communications experience. My presentations are infused with warmth, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to connect with my audience.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I have spent my life speaking. As a public information officer, an adjunct lecturer of Public Speaking at NC State University and a TEDx speaker, I love the written and spoken word.
As a published author and editor, I have used written word for more nearly 30 years to convey important and impactful stories.
As a social butterfly, I love to connect with others and find ways of helping them.
Through spoken and written words, teaching and connecting with others, I have honed my craft and bring warmth and authenticity to my work.
Instead, I would say the following:
The first is to know and understand your personal mantra, your personal mission statement. This will help guide your decisions and allow you to focus on what’s most important to you.
The second is to be authentic and have the highest integrity. You can do your work anywhere, but your name means something and being true to yourself and your values is critical.
The third is to always look for how you can help others. What you give to others will come back.
These are all part of the Reclaim Your Moxie roadmap I teach, but you can practice them right now.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking for more speaking and training opportunities. Whether it’s HR professionals who want to show their team they are invested in their well-being or an event planner who needs a dynamite presentation that leaves their audience wanting more, I can be that keynote speaker and trainer. Who do you know who would benefit from working with the Queen of Moxie?
