We were lucky to catch up with Gayane Melikyan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Gayane, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I fell in love with Las Vegas back in 1999, when I was working at a travel agency and we received the brochures about tours in the US. I had no idea I was going to immigrate one day , but I knew for sure I was going to visit the city of my dreams one day. 3 years later, here I was walking the streets in real life and initiating a lifelong romance with Las Vegas. Through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, the challenges of immigration, single motherhood and the struggles along the way , I met my now husband who miraculously happened to live in Vegas. He embraced my sons as his own , we moved in , got married and had our precious boy together . I was enjoying every second of living here but I knew I wanted to be a SOMEONE other than just a resident . As a child, back in Armenia , I used to sit outside of the church just to watch wedding sessions that were happening every weekend. Seeing the brides in their dresses on their special day was breathtaking , they all looked like princesses, and I was thinking to myself just how lucky the priests were to be standing so close to them . Long story short I became an officiant in the wedding capital of the world, fabulous Las Vegas, and now I am the one to stand close to the couples and go through all the emotions together with them
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I enjoy witnessing two people at the highest peak of their love story . I am a marriage officiant that goes into the depths of their journey as a couple (well as much as the couples allow, of course) and deliver it back to them during the ceremony. I send out a questionnaire and ask them not share their answers with each other until after the wedding day is over. Their surprise emotions during the ceremony are priceless. The more I see, the more I get charged, and their happiness and good feedbacks are my biggest reward.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I saw my goal and I didn’t see a single obstacle to reach that . Believe in yourself and let no one tarnish that . I am my own judge and my biggest critic and the only person I compete with, is myself that was yesterday
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Signs are everywhere you just have to be watchful to spot and interpret them
