We were lucky to catch up with Qeona Pirtle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Qeona, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Being effective and successful when you’re the only one in the room who looks like you comes down to perspective, mindset, and pushing beyond your comfort zone. It starts with having faith in yourself and your abilities, no matter the circumstances. Visualization is key—seeing where you want to be and believing it’s possible. From there, hard work, dedication, and consistency become non-negotiable. It’s important never to let anyone put a limit on your dreams, and to understand that your uniqueness is a strength, not a barrier.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I specialize in semi-permanent brows, and what makes it truly special for me is treating every client like a unique canvas. It’s an honor that people choose to come to me, and it never feels like work because I love what I do. What excites me most is helping women boost their self-esteem and save time on their beauty routines—whether it’s in the morning or at night. As women, we know how long it can take to get ready, so being able to simplify that process for others while making them feel beautiful is incredibly rewarding.
In addition to brow services, I offer eBooks and classes for women who are curious about or eager to step into the beauty industry. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand your skills, my resources are designed to guide and empower you.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey were consistency, believing in myself, and nurturing my relationship with God. Running your own business will test you in every area of your life—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The key is to remain consistent, even when things get tough, believe in yourself when doubt arises, and lean on your faith for strength and guidance.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to focus on developing these qualities. Stay consistent—show up and put in the work every day, even when it’s hard. Build your self-belief by celebrating small wins and stepping out of your comfort zone. If faith is important to you, nurture that relationship because it will sustain you through challenges. And most importantly, never give up, even when you feel like it.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was instill a strong relationship with God, a commitment to hard work, integrity, attention to detail, and kindness. These qualities are not just values I carry; they show in everything I do. They are a reflection of who I am and the foundation of my work.
