Meet Carmen Scott

We were lucky to catch up with Carmen Scott recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Carmen , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

First of all, I think it’s really important to aknowledge that my parents and teachers always made me feel smart and capable. I think that I had a certain amount of natural confidence growing up that was definitely fostered. Participating in the arts was for sure the thing that developed my confidence and self-esteem. I started dancing when I was in second grade and was not the best, but I LOVED it and really gave it my all. A few years in, I was dancing with my studio’s competition team. Dance was the entry point to depth of the human spirit and passion. I’ve also always loved stories, english, and words. There was a sense of how powerful words are, before I was completely conscious of it. Dance and performing was a confidence builder, having performed at Dallas Cowboys half-time shows, for example. Dance is amazing because there is so much discipline, building of the mind-body connection, and a sense of duty to your fellow dancers that is present in that space. Also, having such amazing teachers growing up is something for which I am so grateful. I went to school in a small town in TX. It’s not so small anymore, but we had amazing teachers at that time that taught critical thinking and created environments where we could share openly and engage in higher level conversations. Participating in creative expression, theatre, dance, improv…all of these things have huge benefits in terms of human development. This is why it is so important to keep arts in schools. But I digress…As an adult, having experience in sales, being an improviser, and continuing to put myself out there keeps me from being overly self-conscious. It’s a practice for sure, but at the end of the day, hiding and playing small takes a back seat to purpose, a sense of self-love and self-worth, and the desire to fully express myself.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m currently focused on living in my genius, while making the biggest impact on others. There are a number of things I’m excited about. I have been planting and watering seeds for so long, that this feels like a season where I get to discover which ones will blossom first. Flesh ONEsie Creations was founded with the mission “to increase the quality of humankind, one story at a time,” With the production element, there is a three picture slate we are very excited about and are actively seeking funding. We not only want to provide high quality stories, but provide a high quality enviroment for all those who are involved in the creative process. Stories have the power to shape and shift culture. Our intention is to model an “everybody wins, when everybody wins” philosophy and normalize a higher quality of life, while empowering and uplifting our audience. Disempowering narratives, “that’s just how it is” ideology and the normalization of treating other humans poorly are rampant in our world. We want to embody the opposite.

I’m excited about acting and opportunities in that department, including some things cookin’with Snack Run improv and Uninvited Guests sketch team. I had so much fun acting in Cannibal Cult Dinner Party, a short that is starting it’s fesitval run, and had the pleasure of acting in Shane Brady’s upcoming feature, Hacked.

I’m also stoked about a premium team-building, executive development experience I created and facilitate called the Laugh & Learn. It combines mindset/mindfulness, with improv-based games, and closes with a forward thinking solution oriented conversation. It’s an absolute pleasure to get to guide people through an experience that is often outside their comfort zone and involves laughter (my favorite medicine). It is something unique and powerful, that combines a lot of my different experiences, and adds value to others.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Active presence and gratitude, being intentional with the stories you tell and words you speak, and knowing that you are unconditionally and infinitely worthy. These three qualities, I think are all very powerful qualities and practices that I continue to cultivate. All three boil down to mindset and belief systems. Our minds are involved in everything we do, and much like a computer, they are programmable. I’m by no means perfect in any of these areas, but am aware and make a conscious effort to embody these beliefs. When a person is actively present and grateful, they are able to see opportunities, synchronicities and enjoy the process. This contributes to a higher quality of life. Being intentional with the stories you tell and words that you use, because these things create our worlds. Having a sense of inner self-worth that is unconditional is key to feeling good and the capacity to receive and create. As long as each of us are breathing, we are all on a journey. MIght as well be a full, fun experience!

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

The biggest lesson for me right now has to do with self-love and worthiness. Calling it a challenge doesn’t seem quite right, but it’s definitely been on the forefront of my experience. These things are subtle, but honestly this is it. Closing the gap on my beliefs and the embodiment of those beliefs. Bringing the unconscious into conscious and loving it. It sounds so cheesy, but truly loving and accepting all of me. This is IT!
