Meet Paradis Winslet

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paradis Winslet. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paradis below.

Paradis, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from life experience. You see, I was born and raised in Africa. Sometimes, the difficulties and challenges we face in life, especially at a young age, can help build character and resilience, and somehow, a sense of strength. I am originally from Rwanda, and if you know my country’s history, you will know that we have faced atrocities even before I was born. So, when you have that history, it somehow builds you or breaks you.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hi,

I am Paradis Winslet, the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of my namesake brand, PARADIS WINSLET NEW YORK.

In 2021, I founded PWNY and have been focused on growing the company. It has been quite challenging, but it’s also my passion and calling. I am doing something that I love and believe in.

PWNY is a luxury fashion brand that focuses on creating and producing sustainable limited edition eyewear that is protective, timeless, and fashion forward, while also giving back to the blind and deaf community. As a new brand in the luxury fashion and eyewear industry, our goal is to stay focused on our mission and collaborate with other brands that we admire and that align with our values. At Paradis Winslet NY, our focus is on outstanding quality, timeless designs, sustainability, and philanthropy. Our products are produced in Italy and are unisex.

The inspiration behind PWNY is my mother’s story. My mother is blind, and I was inspired by her resilience and grace in living with such a difficulty. She managed to make it seem as though it was not an obstacle or disability, and for that, I find so much grace and resilience in her character. It is through a vision that it all came together clearly, and there I made a decision to create a company that would produce products that added value to people’s lives and gave back to those in need and with less privilege.

As it is said, “when you know better, you do better.”

Growing up, I truly never realized that my mother had a “disability,” but it took a dream to bring everything into perspective, and for that, I am grateful.

Our products are currently available in stores and online.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The journey of a startup founder is long and never-ending. The most important things for me are:

– Vision (having a clear and firm vision)
– Passion (dedication to your pursuits)
– Persistence

It’s crucial to have a clear vision and be firm in what you want to share with the world. In the face of challenges and distractions, maintaining clarity and conviction in your vision is essential for moving forward. Additionally, passion and persistence are key. Without passion, it’s difficult to stay motivated day in and day out.

Furthermore, if you have a dream in your heart, (remember that it’s yours and yours alone to bring to life. You can ask for help but you can’t ask for someone else to tell you what to do with the dream that God or the universe planted in to your heart! )

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

Thank you for the question.

Our parents play a significant role in shaping who we become. One of the most important things my parents did for me was to instill the belief that no one was above me, in birth or otherwise. They consistently instilled in me a sense of self-worth and self-respect, showing me that I was capable and wholesome. They taught me to treat people with respect and dignity, regardless of their status in life.
