Meet Vinny Picardi

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vinny Picardi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Vinny , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Our band, the Jazz Baker Band, didn’t want to follow the trend of too many Jazz Bands. Specifically, performing the familiar songs audiences and venues expect just to get the gig.
Once we got our footing we immediately sought out music and stylings that separated us from the crowd.
Naturally a part of our repertoire are some jazz standards. But even then we have mix it up. Sometimes we inject Latin rhythms or find a version seldom heard.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I was weaned on Jazz, swing and Popular Jazz as a child growing up.
My parents had a soundtrack of great American Jazz running through the house on a constant basis.
But growing up in NYC during the height of rock pulled me in that direction as a bass player and backup singer.
As an adult I still craved the music I grew up with.
When I ran into Brandon Baker, the musical director and lead performer of the Jazz Baker Band 10 years ago, we immediately hit it off and we’ve been creating unique Jazz ever since.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities that stand out during my and the bands journey are passion, determination and joy.
If you want to be successful you really have to want it.
You can be a bystander. Sure you may get by if you have talent but you won’t reach a level you can be proud of. Thats where all three of those qualities play an important role.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes, we are always open to collaborating with like minded people.
As popular as we are now I believe there’s room for growth and even more success.
Currently we are seeking a manager and /or a producer that get spread the word about the Jazz Baker Band and just how much damn fun we are to listen to.
