We recently connected with Milena Mikic and have shared our conversation below.
Milena, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
For me, dealing with creativity blocks is a pretty common challenge, and I’ve learned a little bit about how to handle them. When I hit a wall, my first instinct used to be to push through. Now, I’ve found that stepping away is really the best approach. I give myself the space to breathe and let my mind wander. It’s amazing how often a fresh idea pops up when I’m not forcing it. I trust that creativity will come back when I’m ready, so I try to embrace that pause instead of feeling frustrated. I also pay attention to what my blocks might be telling me—sometimes they’re a sign I need to recharge or take a break. By connecting with myself and stepping back, I’ve discovered that creativity can flow more freely.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a digital product designer, and what I love most about my work is the way I blend my analytical mind with my creative soul. It’s exciting to take something that feels boring or typical and turn it into a fun, engaging experience. For me, good design is all about creating functional solutions that are not just useful but also beautiful and unique.
I really enjoy collaborating with startups, helping them shape their products and build their brands. There’s something incredibly rewarding about being part of that journey and watching ideas come to life. Stay tuned for more to come on working together 1-1!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that have shaped my journey are my love for drawing, creative problem solving, and adaptability.
Drawing has always been a passion of mine. It kickstarts my creativity and helps me visualize designs before I go digital. My advice is to just practice! There are no rules and sketching can be a great way to express yourself, even if words aren’t your thing (like me).
Creative problem solving is another key skill in my work. I love figuring out how to design things to work better and more efficiently. For those starting out, stay curious about finding solutions and think outside the box. Never be afraid to challenge the norm.
Finally, I believe adaptability is crucial in our fast-changing industry. I’ve learned to adapt to the changing environment, and to also learn new necessary skills depending on the project. Embrace change and focus on learning principles and how things work, versus a specific software. This mindset will help you grow and discover your purpose!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely! I’m always on the lookout for collaboration opportunities. My strengths are in product design, vision, and management, and I’m especially keen to partner with developers and engineers who are passionate about coding. If you love taking prototypes and turning them into websites, mobile apps, or any kind of digital product, I’d love to connect!
