Meet Rani Rai

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rani Rai. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rani below.

Rani, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I believe this answer can have many variables in which phase of my life did I obtain my resilience, but I would have to answer this question with motherhood. As a survivor of PTSD, I was not eager to become a mother. I feared being a mother. Being raised eventually by a single mother, and within poverty my resilience didn’t start until I gave birth to my son. The moment I realized that he didn’t choose to be in this world gave me the ability to fight every day to give him an opportunity in this life that I truly believed I had to fight for each and every day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

In 2018 my only child and son left for college, and I became an empty nester and was dealing with new life challenges. My mother a widow and newly retiree was also dealing with her own life changes. As we both are survivors of domestic violence, and I a survivor of Child & Sexual Abuse handling my mental health has always been something I worked effortlessly at maintaining. As I tried to cope with old and new mental challenges a friend suggested that I start a dog boarding business. At first, I was hesitant as I work full-time for the government, but it seemed something that could help me in many ways outside of my 9 to 5. I kicked off this new endeavor by walking dogs and then taking on dogs in both our homes. Although it was great being compensated for this small business, what became evident was the love that me, my mother and my family received from the pets we boarded which became the greatest reward. This business became the one thing that gave our lives full compassion and love and also giving us a sense of servitude to our community by providing a service that gives from the heart. Now in 2024 we remain a vibrant service and have many loyal clients here and in other states. We hope to launch Rani’s Rascals, LLC luxury dog apparel & accessories to ensure that all dogs are treated like Royalty. Ultimately this business provides so much healing and happiness and that is something you can’t put a price tag on.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

In my journey what I reflect on is my faith, hope and compassion for life. In any journey both personal and professional, how you keep going when you have obstacles, challenges and when things aren’t always positive is you hold on to what guides you and holding on to the little things that provide you an understanding on being genuine and solely a good person. This journey has had me value nature, innocence of loving animals, and humility. Many of us know that this journey is not forever and that the simplest forms of life’s greatest gifts can be taken for granted. How we improve and how we develop is by the level of your acts of kindness and your integrity is everything you do. If you build on those levels everything else will fall into place.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Throughout my life I’ve suffered with anxiety and panic attacks and what helps me when I’m overwhelmed is connecting with nature. Going for walks, putting my feet in the grass, touching a tree, watching sunrises and sunsets and listening to the birds as the trees sway in the wind. The world is moving so rapidly and sometimes we have to take a step back and just take small slow moments and just appreciate the parts that we can’t control or that seemed to have been surrounding us every day that go unnoticed.
